When after the Demeter leaves Varna bound for London and Dracula begins to wreak havoc on the crew, the captain notes that London was the closest port to the ship's position. There are many ports between Varna and London in various nations much closer than England which the Demeter could have gone to, not to mention ports in southern England such as Portsmouth and Southampton.

Blood transfusions only really ever took place in the 1900s after the discovery of blood groups. Before then, doctors would use milk and, then later, a saline solution as a blood substitute.

Milk was used mostly in North America and not at all after 1885. In Britain, things went differently. Blood transfusions were being performed in London in the early 1800s.

The life-saving crew searching the area where the Demeter wrecked are using flashlights. The film was set in 1897, but the flashlight wasn't patented until 1899.

Although hard to see, they were using lanterns, not flashlights.

Toby says the girl speaks Romani. That would make Anna a Roma, but she doesn't look like one and she is wearing clothes resembling traditional Romanian motifs. The language she speaks would therefore be Romanian.

A person's clothing is not an indicator of what language they speak. There are Romani in Romania, but not all Romanians are Romani. They have similar names and different languages.

In the opening scene, the constable is reading the captain's log, completely oblivious that the rain is starting to wash the ink away.

Ink is not a new invention. Many formulations don't wash off and this was one. Water is puddled on the pages, but the ink is intact as it should be waterproof on a sailing ship. He was so shocked by what he was reading that he didn't notice.

The Demeter is described as a Russian vessel, but the audience never sees anything related to Cyrillic or Russia anywhere on the ship or her crew.

Being registered in Russia is no different from ships today being registered in Liberia. Russian paraphernalia and crew not required, although Petrofsky was.

During the heavy rain scenes on deck, the rain can be seen pelting the decks and tarps; however, no rain runs off the actors or their rain gear.
