A distraction
apatil413 April 2020
Let me begin my review by quoting Ford from season 1 "no, i dont think so, what is the point of it, you hve got a couple of cheap thrills, some surprises but thats not enough. Its not about giving guests what you think they want. Thats simple, titilation, horror, elation.. they are parlor tricks. The guests don't return for the obvious things we do,... they come back for the subtleties.. they comeback because they discover something they imagine no one ever noticed before, something they fall in love with. They are not looking for something that tells them who they are.. they already know who they are.. they are here because they want a glimpse of what they could be. The only thing your story tells me Mr Sizemore is who you are"

The whole Genre experiment is not relevant to the current story that it needs a whole episode. Its just a filler for a short storyline for the season. Or may be its a setup to something on a grander scale but didnt whoa me. The episode does however expose a lot of new things I craved to know about Serac and his anger on Dolores and i look forward to the rest

What is up with the audio mix this season?
aryes8912313 April 2020
Very difficult to follow along with the plot as background music and FX are so loud the dialog can't be made out. The plot is very important to this series and is being lost with so many words being drowned out.

This is NOT really Westworld! But it's good
deltastar-1525013 April 2020
The core idea behind the episode is really great. Talking about the big data and how it can control our lives in such a way is really astonishing especially with this amazing storytelling. Although the drug part wasn't really necessary but it was driven in a nice cinematic way with the incredible acting of Aaron Paul.

Fenomenal.
dj_fejza13 April 2020
Maybe the best episode of the series. I still can't believe they could fit so much into a single episode without it feling rushed at the slightest.

My admiration for Aaron Pauls contribution to the series keeps following the same pattern, growing immensely for each episode. I absolutely love the casting choice for Serac, his melancholic and at the same time passive agressive ways make for an excellent character.

And my how I love the writing, it all ties so well with all the previous seasons in general and the previous episodes in particular.

Calebs drug adventure was one of the most entertaining things I've watched, ever. The writers blended it in extremely well with the rest of the story.

Definitely top three episodes. Looking like the third season is about to surpasse the first season in quality, for me. Glad to see it.

THIS is how you do science fiction.

Warning: Spoilers
Westworld has always prided itself on exploring theological concepts but since the beginning of S3, with the show's brand new reinvention in a completely different location - grounding the story in a reality not too dissimilar to our own - executive producers & creators Lisa Joy & Jonathan Nolan have really capitalised on the opportunity they have to now examine our own ways of life (heavily influenced by George Orwell's classic "1984") drawing immediately noticeable comparisons between the hosts from the park & ourselves, blurring the lines until by this point, one is hardly recognisable from the other.

Hence, by this episode - as Dolores once did - humanity & viewers alike are beginning to question the nature of their own reality; if free will does exist, what price must we pay for it & what lies at the heart of true human nature? Additionally, we're left to ponder if chaos is the only way of ensuring unrestricted liberty. Furthermore, with so many inventive homages to previous filmmaker's works in "Genre", it's no surprise that Nolan uses that chance to scrutinize the fragility of our pre-existing systems in the same way that his brother Christopher did with his iconic Batman movie, "The Dark Knight".

Consequently, this might be the most Nolan episode of a Nolan-made show thus far.

With fascinating moments of outward looking contemplation & equal levels of captivating introspection, moral dilemmas & intriguing ethical debates shown from both opposing sides of the argument, it's rapidly become the most intellectually stimulating series to air in recent memory.

Not to mention, this boasts stunningly mesmeric cinematography from Zoe White - who creates stylistically sleek & beautiful visuals under the faultless direction of indomitable talent Anna Foerster.

Don't judge without facts
For the people complaining about the drug and the music in this episode. Go watch some CLASSIC movies like Apocalypse Now, The Shinning, Blade Runner etc. The drug thing was nothing less then a way to pay respect to great cinema moments while advancing the plot. Do you want a boring blockbuster chase scene like we've seen it 1000 times? I understand people have different taste but don't talk without knowing what are you talking about.

And since when a series need to stay equal in everything? It's so rare and amazing to explore where can the characters go. Open yourself to new things, maybe you need that drug.

Just think a bit. What are this screenwriters telling us? Do we need robots, the thing that we fear the most, to save us(Dolores)? What's the price for peace? Does Chaos pay? There's so much things they're telling us to think. To Think.

Warning: Spoilers
So far removed from the original and morphed into something completely different. I enjoy bits of it, but on the whole it's become pretentious and up itself. What I hated about this episode Dolores The slowest car chase ever Another side story that doesn't need a whole episode Music that is too loud and doesn't fit.

What am I watching?
alexanderdgc13 April 2020
Great TV for sure with its cinematography, visual effects and so on, but is this westworld? Do the writers even try to make it feel like westworld or to make sense? Dolores character is completely ruined and is now a murderous terminator. She actually feels more like a robot now than she did in season 1. I really hope that things ties up well in the season finale, or else this episode is useless, just visual effects and no plot.

Also, we need way more William and Bernard. Does anyone even like Dolores? Please kill her off in the season finale to make season 4 better.

No tension, no brains
Tzaddiq13 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
While I admire a show for trying to tackle philosophical questions, it has to match the ambition with something better than sophomoric bar-side commentary. Nothing that has been brought up about morality, consciousness, or free will has been anywhere close to the mark. This time, we get to hear about Insight's master designs which predict extremely complex dynamics of individual humans well into the future, despite our not being able to predict the weather 1/100th that long.

This particular episode which could have been exciting is totally let down by any sense of danger to any of our protagonists. As usual, bad guy bullets do nothing, good guy bullets are killshots. Bad guys take cover yet get easily hit. Good guys take no cover yet 5 magazines worth of bullets miss them. Why bother with these kind of scenes if they're not going to convey any sense of risk? Why put characters in adversarial situations if they can easily diffuse it with unlikely tricks and show no ingenuity?

I think this typifies Westworld. Flashy production, big budget sets, and completely lame writing.

Seems like humanity has always been someone's experiment. Episode Genre masterfully captures the essence of Westworld's worldwide extended reality. Perfectly executed.

Warning: Spoilers
Great dialogs, great cinematography and great acting.

I've read some of the reviews that gave it a 1/10. I really tried to figure out if the criticism is justified. But sorry, most of them are trying really hard to write bad things about it. For instance, action above dialogs - have they watched the last season? It has pretty good dialogs compared to other shows. For instance, details about transactions and corporations, not bad at all. Most other shows would go to far less details. Cinematography and music choice in the last episode was great. Some scenes are top movie level. One review wrote about the lack of bernards role in this episode (so what, each episode focuses on different characters). The same goes for the criticism about the lack of background of serac and his brothers family and why they don't tell us why paris was blown up. Seriously? Why we have to know that. Some things are left for one's own imagination to figure out. And oddly, some 1/10 reviews looked the same.

This is a great season. And a great episode. If you didn't like season 2 like me, season 3 is definitely a great surprise and a major improvement.

I don't get the low ratings because they just miss the theme park. Where this show has gone to become after all these years is well-earned.This is the most thrilling and enjoyable episode of WestWorld in my opinion. Aaron Paul channeling a drugtripping Jesse Pinkman is such a treat for a Breaking Bad fan too!

To all the people who compare this season to the previous ones, keep an open mind. Don't hate it because it is different from the previous seasons, they are trying something new and for me it has delivered so far. This episode have created some kind of division between the watchers. For me, I loved every part of this episode. Aaron Paul killed it with his performance, you can clearly see the change in emotions when jumping between different genres in his eyes. And for the people who say they are rushing it, the episode is called Genre, which means they intentionally included different events, they are not rushing it. Yes there were many things happening but it was perfectly excuted in an enjoyable way that describes the name of this episode.

I'm not really into this new plot, I miss the park so much. This is the episode that I liked least so far. I fell asleep :( and I was so excited to watch it, I watched it later and I didn't liked it too much.

5 out of 5 stars.

This episode was insane. The story. The action. The music. And the script and direction. Story is awesome. Characters with their own motives. Without giving spoilers. There is a car chase and a few exciting shoot outs. The soundtrack was great.

Season 3 is not good. Warning: Spoilers
I get that there's only so much they can do inside the park without it getting repetitive, but season 3 is just too different, to the extent that it feels like a different show. And, to be honest, I have no idea what's going on, due to the fact that I'm struggling to concentrate on it.

Wow!! That car chase was just awful man!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Overall this was probably the worst episode of Westworld.

The whole action sequence was sooooo bad! I was impressed at how amateur, campy and lame it was. Boring conversations. Machine guns are no match for Terminator and Caleb. Classic movie songs playing. Caleb super cool friends showing up at the end. Lame!!

I like Dolores less and less in every episode. Are we supposed to root for her? I still have no clue. She used to be a great character in season one but now, frankly, I can't stand her.

So Serac crashed Liam plane and then he took Liam to the crash site and kill him there...??? I have a better idea! Why not crash the plane with Liam ALREADY IN IT? What was the point of crashing the plane first and then killing Liam?

This whole show is covered in a thick layer of pretentiousness. You can feel it in its music and its super serious tone.

The producers of the show think that they are creating something deep and mind boggling, but in reality they are just creating camp. Expensive and entertaining camp I might add.
