Well, this is rather cheap but funny to see children horror fairytale movie. The film won the awards for both "Best Comedy for Children" and "Most Magical Comedy" at the 2004 "Smile, Russia!" Comedic Film Festival, held that year in Great Novgorod, Russia. The main character- Vasilisa is an ancient sorceress who never ages, Inka is a beautiful mermaid who loves midnight bathing, and Grandma Yadviga, a old witch who loves to fly, decide to break their edict against interfering in the lives of people. Together with their talking cat, Timofey Ivanovich, they begin to use their powers to bring small miracles to the citizens of Reshetov, a small Russian town tucked away in a forgotten corner of Siberia. Nobody in the town knows about the new-comers, but miracles start to happen. It turns out that they can do unbelievable things . They cure ill people, they help poor to make gold out of lead. They make a lot of unknown before things. Two friends (both working in police) fall in love with Vasilissa. They help her and protect her from evil-looking mafia. Though this crazy family intend towards only good creates more new problems for them and the people they try to help. For example, a local boy starts to sell the gold, that he made in his garage, to some looking like mafia guys. The money-oriented minds try to use the secret knowledges of those mysterious persons and their legendary cat. It has good ending- the marriage. But you never expect bad ending in the things like this. It was very nice too see this comic horror fairytale. There are some special effects here, very cheap, but nice looking. Altogether this is an easy-going Russian thrash.
