Music makes the movie with David Lowery’s haunting fantasy drama film, “A Ghost Story.” Much of the narrative is based around music: both its significance to the characters and its significance in telling the story of coping with love and loss for the living and the deceased. While the dialogue itself offers beautiful bits of wisdom and food for thought, the film’s score invokes emotions that even those who haven’t experienced profound loss will understand and connect with.

Music plays an appropriately haunting part in David Lowery’s Sundance hit “A Ghost Story,” which follows his “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” stars Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck as they attempt to navigate love, loss, and the afterlife in the filmmaker’s daringly intimate feature. (Affleck’s character eventually becomes a ghost in the film, but before his unexpected death, he’s a talented musician, and the music doesn’t stop after he shuffles off this mortal coil…kind of, sort of, not really.)
The film will hit theaters later this summer, along with a soundtrack filled to bursting with evocative tracks that unspool over the course of the riveting film, and we’ve got a batch of exclusive details on the album, complete with a first listen at one of its most essential songs.

After receiving tremendous support from deadmau5 and signing to his mau5trap label, Rezz has become the kind of fresh faced producer you can’t seem to escape over the last year. This week, she’s released her latest offering, a six track Ep titled Something Wrong Here that comes packed with her unique brand of unsettling techno.
Opener “Purple Gusher” kicks the new collection off with a bang, as a plucky melody carves out a slow riding rhythm. A dark synth sequence begins to play out over four on the floor rhythms, leading into minimalist drops with stuttering, staccato bass stabs and growling electronics layered over the steady pounding of the drums.
“Selector” keeps the techno vibes going with wobbly synths and mechanical rhythms, while “Melancholy” switches things up with a somber vocal collaboration featuring Laura Brehm. “Cryptic,” meanwhile, delivers horror tinged melodies and muted bass tones over scattered rhythms,...

While he's taking off for the Labor Day holiday, Colin Brown from Slated Editorial Director has shared with Indiewire an old -- but valuable -- post from the Slated Filmonomics blog: it's a list of seven tips for filmmakers to keep in mind as they try to look for funding from investors, ripped from Silicon Valley's own tips for investors. In The Wall Street Journal, Slated was described as “Soho House for film financing, due to the requirement that you must be invited to be a member.” Another point of reference could just as easily have been AngelList. For those unfamiliar with this game-changing website, AngelList is a powerful funding vehicle that connects startups with a who’s who of early stage venture capitalists, high-net-worth individuals and angel investors. Simply put: AngelList is to Silicon Valley what Slated is to the film industry. The parallels are close enough that AngelList...

In the wall-to-wall coverage of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi yesterday, which was dominated by gruesome images of his lifeless body that I felt the networks went overboard with, two moments stood out. The oddest was when Regis Philbin read live the news of Gaddafi’s death on Live With Regis And Kelly to cheers and applause from the audience so big that even the veteran host was taken aback. The most intriguing was Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s reaction to reading the news on her BlackBerry, accidentally caught on tape: you rarely see state officials in such unguarded moments. As for TV personas who stood out, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart did his thing with an amusing look at Gaddafi with all his weirdness as well as the news coverage of his death. And then there was the unlikely hero of that news coverage yesterday, former Friends star Matthew Perry,...

Over the centuries many great philosophical questions have been posed: Who are we? What is our purpose in life? How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?
Well, that last one wasn’t Socrates, it was Pink Floyd on arguably their most famous track, “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2,” off their rock opera album “The Wall.” Alan Parker famously depicted the anti-authoritarian school song in his 1982 film version of the Roger Waters opus, but now it seems a new film built around the song is in the works and, like most superhero movies, it’s an origin tale.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller isn’t the only song looking to be adapted to film (here). According to Deadline Hollywood, Andy Harries (The Queen and the Damned United) is looking to bring Pink Floyd’s famous song, Another Brick In The Wall, to the big-screen. The film won’t be a remake of Alan Parker’s The Wall, but a true story about the children who sang and their music teacher.
Harries describes the film as “Dead Poets Society meets School of Rock.” Harries has also optioned the rights of Alan Renshaw’s, a music teacher “who arrived at a struggling north London comprehensive (public) school in the late 70s, determined to shake things up.” Steve Thompson will be writing the script for BBC Films. However, Harries admits that he’s yet to acquire the rights to the project.

"We don’t need no education/We don’t need no thought-control.”
Producer Andy Harries who worked on films such as The Queen and The Damned United is currently preparing to develop a new film based on the classic Pink Floyd song Another Brick In The Wall. The film is not a remake Alan Parker's classic Pink Floyd movie The Wall. This new film actually tells the true story of the schoolchildren who sang on the 1979 hit song and the inspired music teacher who made it all happen. Harries describes the film as Dead Poets Society meets School of Rock.
According to Deadline, Harries optioned "the life story of music teacher Alan Renshaw who arrived at a struggling north London comprehensive (public) school in the late 70s, determined to shake things up. His class eventually ends up singing the chorus on the Pink Floyd track – whose controversial lyrics, flicking a V-sign at authority.

A new film is in the works based off of the Pink Floyd song 'Another Brick In the Wall' from 'The Wall' album. This will not be a remake of the iconic Alan Parker movie from 1982 but a true life story of one unique music teacher. The movie will tell the story of Alan Renshaw, whose school children sang on 'Another Brick In the Wall'. The 1979 track was a number one single. The movie is being written by Steve Thompson and produced by Andy Harries (The Queen) through Left Bank and BBC Films. At this point Roger Waters has not given the rights to the song to Harries yet.
