I love the Little Mermaid series. True it isn't as good as the film, but it is a great childhood favourite that I revisit whenever possible. Red is a great episode, not the best one, but it is entertaining. The animation is lovely, and the music is simply delightful. The plot, about King Triton feeling his age, and is eventually turned into a mer boy by the sound of a magic flute, is a simple but effective one. The dialogue here is very inspiring, and for those who haven't seen this, I will say that what Sebastian says sometimes is absolutely hysterical. Ariel is deliberately made more responsible and sympathetic, not that she wasn't, but the plot made it necessary for that to happen. The vocal performances never fail to impress, Jodi Benson is just amazing as Ariel, she has a lot of spunk and personality and it shines through. Samuel E Wright and Eden Cross are great as Sebastian and Flounder, and Kenneth Mars's King Triton is a real inspiring father figure. As for the villains, Jim Cummings is wonderful as the glow fish, and Linda Gary is literally chilling as the Sea Cave Witch. Great episode, 9/10. Bethany Cox
