Bruce Dickinson performed a two-night stand at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood, California, marking his first solo non-spoken-word concerts in 22 years.
The last-minute “secret” gigs took place Friday (April 12th) and Saturday (April 13th) and served as a warmup for Dickinson’s international tour supporting his new album The Mandrake Project. A third California warmup gig is also slated for Monday night (April 15th) at The Observatory in Santa Ana.

Exclusive: Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is teaming up with filmmaker Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil!) to co-write a narrative screenplay about the now-cult rock concert Dickinson played during the height of the Siege of Sarajevo in 1994.
Risking their lives, Dickinson and his band Skunkworks were smuggled into the besieged city by the Un to play a concert for its beleaguered citizens amidst the chaos of war. The journey was captured in a 2016 documentary Scream for Me Sarajevo.
The Siege Of Sarajevo was the longest siege in modern history lasting 1,425 days and resulting in more than 11,000 killed, including 1,600 children. The city was decimated, infrastructure destroyed, and there was wide spread damage to many cultural institutions, government buildings, hospitals, and schools.
In 2019, the Sarajevo City Council granted Dickinson the title of “Honorary citizen of Sarajevo,” in remembrance of his visit and the band’s performance at the peak of the Bosnian war.

Da Vinci’s Demons, Season 1: Episode 5 – “The Tower”
Directed by Paul Wilmshurst
Written by Joe Ahearne
Airs Friday nights at 9 on Starz
So, to continue the trend of piecing together seemingly unrelated things in these Da Vinci’s Demons reviews (I consider this completely appropriate because of the outrageous fashion in which da Vinci solves his problems in this show), let me turn your attention to Bruce Dickinson’s song, “The Tower,” with which this episode shares its name. Is it a coincidence that the album from which that song comes from, The Chemical Wedding, is concerned with mysticism to a similar degree that Da Vinci’s Demons is? Definitely. But all coincidences aside, it’s hard to ignore lyrics like “The moon and sun divided / The hanged man smiles” after seeing some of the closing images of the episode “The Tower” – the hanged man tarot card, the vision...

Mark Sandell, co-director of Trinity and executive producer on ‘A Liar’s Autobiography’ said: “Trinity are immensely proud to be involved with this fantastic project, working not only alongside the Pythons, but also with Epix, Bill and Ben Productions and Brainstorm Media – to help bring the unique talents of this extraordinary man back to a global audience”.

Opening in the UK today is Bronson, director Nicolas Winding Refn’s violently surreal screen biography of notorious British thug Michael Petersen. Adopting the name Charles Bronson, after the Death Wish movie star, for his bare-knuckle fighting persona, Petersen has spent most of his adult life in prison solitary confinement.
Refn’s nihilistic tribute, with nods to Stanley Kubrick and Kenneth Anger, has provoked a huge controversy and much critical acclaim, with actor Tom Hardy (from Lethal Dose, Minotaur, The Killing Gene and Star Trek: Nemesis) attracting stunning reviews for his fearless, raw and powerful lead performance. At the London premiere, Refn (pictured) introduced Hardy on stage with the words “My Aleister Crowley.” Afterward, the director (whose credits also include Fear X and the Pusher trilogy) gave Fango the exclusive on what he meant.

Finally we have some good dvds dropping today, including some cult favorites. First off is the soon to be remade Swedish vampire flick Let The Right One In which everyone seems to love but me, whatever. Next off I'm throwing in a comedy for good measure to wipe that foul taste out so let's pick Role Models which was actually quite funny. Then we have another Jason Statham vehicle, Transporter 3. Getting sick of those yet? Then we have the Aleister Crowley reincarnation film Crowley which was formerly titled Chemical Wedding (review here). Then we have a Belgian film called Ben X about bullying and revenge which was popular on the fest circuit, I still need to watch this one. Next off, cult fans will recognize Harold and Maude which is getting a widescreen DVD release! Lastly is Kôji Kawano tasty J-horror Cruel Restaraunt.

In the spirit of the recent Academy Awards, Brian Solomon from The Vault of Horror blog put together The 2008 Cyber Horror Awards ballot, which was sent out to the usual group of horror bloggers as detailed here.
Out of all of the nominated films, the only one I haven't seen is Martyrs (and some of Repo! - more on that in a bit). From what I've heard, I may have voted very differently had I been able to see this film. With this in mind, I suggested that the French film Inside (with it's 2008 DVD release in the U.S.) should be on this year's ballot and Martyrs (with it's U.S. DVD release coming up in a few weeks) should be on next year's ballot, but I was overruled.
With that, here are my selections, the nominees and the winners from the 2008 Cyber Horror Awards Ballot.

Aleister Crowley was a really interesting cat to say the least. But what if he had lived to see our modern times? What if he had access to the Internet? We're talking mayhem, that's what!
Anchor Bay's latest acquisition, Crowley aka Chemical Wedding, stars Simon Callow with the director's helm belonging to Julian Doyle, who also co-wrote the movie with Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of heavy metal icons Iron Maiden. The flick will be seeing its home video debut on March 10, 2009, and I have to say that this one looks really interesting!

The special features are as follows:
Audio commentary with Writer Bruce Dickinson, Producer Ben Timlett and Director Julian Doyle The Making-of Crowley Deleted Scenes Theatrical trailer From the press release:
Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) was the most notorious occultist who ever lived. A man whose appetites for corruption, sadism, sexual excess, and moral degradation knew no bounds.

Julian Doyle and Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding is being renamed for its U.S. debut to Crowley . The film streets, via Anchor Bay Entertainment, on March 10th and we're hosting an exclusive first look at the U.S. trailer. If you click here you can check it out. Crowley is certainly a funky looking flick. Written by Iron Maiden's frontman and starring Simon Callow, it tells of a professor who becomes the reincarnation of Aleister Crowley.

The artwork and release dates for two anticipated films from Anchor Bay have finally surfaced over on Amazon; how fortuitous that you can just scroll down to the bottom and pre-order both of them through Evilshop!
First up on March 10th is Crowley, formerly known as Chemical Wedding. The film is the story of a mild-mannered professor who is taken over by the spirit of Aleister Crowley and does all sorts of nasty things around his unsuspecting campus, preparing to unleash the ultimate evil on the world.
You may recall that Crowley is the brainchild of Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, who had the idea for the film knocking around in his brain pan for years before finally getting former “Monty Python” editor Julian Doyle to direct it. The results, from what I’ve heard, are mixed at best, but why listen to others when you can find out for yourself in a few months?...

• Fango got word that Anchor Bay will release Julian Doyle’s Chemical Wedding, under the new title of Crowley, in late first quarter 2009. Doyle also scripted the movie with Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson.
The movie stars Simon Callow as a Cambridge University professor who becomes possessed by the spirit of notorious occultist Aleister Crowley. Kal Weber, Lucy Cudden, Jud Charlton, Paul McDowell and John (Mirrors) Shrapnel co-star. Disc details haven’t been solidified, but we’re told there will be an audio commentary and behind-the-scenes footage. The Bay also alerted Fango that it’ll put the 20th Anniversary Edition of Hellraiser out on Blu-ray in April, with all the extras from the DVD. And the company’s cover art for Gilles Paquet-Brenner’s Walled In, starring Mischa Barton and set to hit disc March 17, has surfaced; we’ll have the specs on that one soon.

Somehow we missed this as it just dropped this past Monday across the pond, and from our review we're all excited to see it. The story, co-written by Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson, is about a shy stuttering professor who brings occultist Aleister Crowley back to life and, well, kind of goes an immoral rampage. You can watch the trailer here, and you can buy the dvd here.

Here are some news bites for our long weekend:
Ashley Greene has had a whirlwind of press lately, once she signed on to play Alice Cullen in Twilight. Now The Hollywood Reporter posts that she's signed onto an indie thriller called Summer. In it, she'll get another horror-themed family, but much less sexy than well-coifed, blood-sucking vampires. See, she plays a girl looking for the "father she's never known." And while that's always a risky adventure -- you never know what you'll find -- this is even more so because her family is a group of serial killers. The film is currently in production in Ottawa. Meanwhile, Variety reports that Cmg has closed deals for Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson's Chemical Wedding. Starz/Anchor Bay are handing distribution in North America for the film that focuses on "the most evil man in Britain," Aleister Crowley. Cmg President Edward Noeltner has noted about the big,...

LONDON -- Julian Doyle's Chemical Wedding, penned by Bruce Dickinson, frontman for the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has been nabbed by Warner Bros. for U.K. and Ireland distribution rights.
The film, billed as a supernatural horror thriller, wrapped principal photography Tuesday and stars Simon Callow as a reincarnation of Aleister Crowley, once dubbed "the most evil man in Britain."
Veteran Monty Python second-unit director Doyle is directing the picture, which centers on Crowley, a major Edwardian figure and a scandalous character brought back to life by a shy, stuttering Professor Haddo (Callow).
Focus Films' David Pupkewitz and Malcolm Kohll are producing with Ben Timlett and Justin Peyton of Bill and Ben Prods. and Duellist Film in association with Motion FX and E-Motion.
Andy Taylor, Rod Smallwood, Paul Astrom-Andrews and Peter Dale are executive producers.
Worldwide sales on Chemical Wedding are being handled by Cinema Management Group, headed by veteran foreign sales executive Edward Noeltner.
No financial details were available.
Pupkewitz said Warner Bros. also had a first-look option "on a slew of other territories" for the film should it decide to activate those rights.
