Not usually impressed with short story - but this one proves me wrong.
Allendorf8 November 2007
For me, this film is a masterpiece -- albeit its short length.

It all began when Kevin happen to travel with his aunt and met with Olle in a holiday trailer park. Considering its short length of the film - I would feel remorse of disclosing any plot after this :).

What being the most powerful way the director managed this film is that - instead of using complex plot, tragedies, and multiple characters that many full length movies use- the director has eliminated all these noises and focused into the 'passion' and 'affection' component of the film and let those carries the story until its very end which makes this movie very powerful.

I had never been impressed with 'coming out' short story because most of them ends in either separation, deaths, tragedy or just filled with other ambiguities that leaves the audience lingering unsatisfied. But Lucky Blue proves me wrong.

The simplicity and the short length of the film, for me, certainly has accomplished its true purpose that is not only to entertain but also to inspire and gives hope to people affected by such sensitive issue.

In one word - Brilliant !
Jedi821724 December 2007
I never was much of a fan of the short film genre. this movie proved me wrong and how. i was blown over by the sheer restraint that the director showed. not too long, not short - just perfect.

added to this is the brilliant performances by the cast. The sets are nice and the score is great.but what makes it a gem is the feeling that if such and such were the circumstances, this is the way that it would happen. you just marvel at the realism. And wish the tale for yourself - in real.

OK - words don't come easy to me- either:)

Strongly recommended..

Excellent movie
mrland-117 November 2007
This movie is not just about the two guys, it's the scene, plot, all the people, music, ... everything put together just right!

I haven't seen any of these actors in other movies but nevertheless their talents prove beyond a doubt that they are more than capable actors and time will tell that they are all highly professional and talented. In fact, I am sure there are people who will agree that these actors are better than many of the most popular.

Credit has to also be given to director, Håkon Liu. Mr. Liu has succeeded in combining all the right ingredients, people and elements in a triumphant in film.

my opinion

Excellent film that I enjoy watch it many time from time to time, observing in their details. The performance of the cast is excellent much better than famous actors, especially Olle (Tobias Bengtsson) who knows to show perfectly the innocence, brave and love. His sweet and fresh smile fits very well in the film. Credit for the director and the scriptwriter too. it will be one of my film that I keep it close to me, because when after seeing the short film, I can feel the love on the air with a happy ending, that make me feel cheerful. It is a good example of good short film with low budget and only four actors. Thanks for festival I could to know about this films and others, that inspire me to write some short novels and scripts.

It is all about this strange chemistry between two people falling in love with a mixture of emotional and intellectual activity.

Interesting short gay themed movie.

It is all about this strange chemistry between two people falling in love with a mixture of emotional and intellectual activity.

It is not a simple "both falling in love story".

To dare to tell his love but when in love, the brain needs to feel similar feeling from the partner, always afraid to go too far and trying to get back: "three steps forward and a two steps back". Furthermore, they do not share the same mood at the same time.

Or Kevin is "not sure" about himself, not sure of his emotional feelings".

"Am I drunk" , "Are you drunk ", "Are we drunk " they often say. Is lucky bird still in its cage or not?

Typical dichotomy between brain and heart when brain takes over heart : "The heart has reasons which reason does not know".

beautiful

sweet-bitter atmosphere. perfect cast. wise story. inspired atmosphere. a form of realism who gives seductive form of realism. because it is a film about past and memories and clash between different manners to understand the life. all presented in delicate manner. the contrast between Olle and Kevin is the most important virtue of this short film about holiday, self definition and new beginning. Britta Andersson does a great job , giving the key -character, who knows, who looking preserve the equilibrium, who preserves her fears and see the right solution of a possible crisis. and Tobias Bengtsson seems be the best choice, maybe only for be Olle. a beautiful film. that is all.

Your average gay-themed short film
Horst_In_Translation15 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"Lucky Blue" is a 28-minute live action short film from almost 10 years ago and the first thing that needs to be said is that you may want to make sure you get subtitles for this one. The film's title is English, but it's actually the name of a bird in the film and all the talking is in Swedish. The director and writer is Håkon Liu and this was his second filmmaking effort. The two male lead actors, especially the one who is even more lead than the other, are not too experienced and it shows on some occasions. I have seen many gay-themed short films and this one here is neither among the worst, nor among the best. It is sadly not a particular good watch nonetheless. There are some cheesy and cringeworthy moments and the reference of the bird flying out of his cage compared to the boys breaking free and admitting their sexuality is really pretentious. A couple solid moments, a couple bad moments, overall not enough good to let me recommend it. Thumbs down.

This film blew me away
esoterikphoto1 April 2023
I was entranced from the beginning. Small package with a lot to say. The actors added a realness to the characters and I was able to see aspects of myself in the characters at that age - the insecurity and uncertainty mixed with exploration while trying to figure yourself out. While the cast was small, it was perfect, with the 4 main characters all that was needed: the 2 main leads, the clueless dad and that aunt who totally surprised me. I loved her character. While the film left her motivations somewhat open (I was watching a Portuguese subtitled film that I had to use a translator alongside to figure out what they were saying), I could swear that she was playing matchmaker and she was the most aware of anyone. She was like the glue that held everything together and brought all the characters together. That grin of hers after Olle leaves the stage to go to Kevin was the clincher for me on her motivations and made me love her all the more. City boy Kevin initially appeared to be the more self-assured one of he 2 boys but you get to see that like many of us at that age he's actually somewhat insecure where the alcohol helps to get him that extra push to move outside of his comfort zone. He seems a bit of a douche at first but it's all false bravado. By the end you see his journey come around to being more secure with himself and with Olle and you're left wondering how things progressed the rest of the summer. Tobias brings to Olle a sense of innocence and openness brought on by the isolation of trailer life with a transient crowd of people much much older than himself and a clueless every dad who seems emotionally detached from his son. The father is not the focus of the story and there's just enough of him to add context. The writer/director deserves a lot of credit for putting together a short story with all the proper elements that feels just right and that everything would happen just as he wrote it. I would be remiss in not mentioning the cinematography and costuming that was all done just right and makes this film somewhat timeless. This film is a little gem.

Very cute.

That lovely idea of a teenage summer romance that we've all wanted, but struggled to find. But is it all worth it, is he good enough? And what's with all the bad karaoke?
