Even though I'm not a kiwi (yet), I've enjoyed this movie a lot! As previously noted, it brings heaps of cool songs. And although it is full of "F words" and other nasty aspects, they fit the characters and the movie context perfectly. Of course it is a cheap movie, and of course the story could be improved and all that good stuff. But hey, had this been the case, perhaps this movie would just have been another movie... Being exactly like this is what makes it great! Looking forward to buying the DVD so that I can share this pearl with my friends around the world.

Cheers, GG

Funniest film I've seen for years!!, 22 October 2007

This film rocks!!!! It has everything from outrageous humour, blood and guts and everything else disgusting and it even has love story thrown in for you romantics out there. Not sure its really a date movie, well not unless your girlfriend is very cool with a wicked sense of humour anyway, though my sister and I LOVED IT!! I saw this film back in August in the UK and have been waiting for it to be shown again here as I cannot wait to see it again. The quick and witty the one liners will be popping up in your head for a very long time to come, making you laugh out loud at the most inopportune moments. The characters are well mixed and you can't help but like the good and secretly love the bad, I can't rate this film highly enough it is a definite MUST SEE movie. It may be short but it is most certainly SWEET!! And the sound track is pretty awesome too, what more can I say other than you would be mad to miss it!!

The good stuff: Matt Heath was quite good as Dick Johansonson, a total asshole who frequents the screen. The music was great and has a lot of Deja Voodoo tracks (Stapp and Heaths band) as well as Kiwi classics from The Mockers and HLAH. The funniest and cleverest part in my opinion was the juxtaposition of Randy living the good life and rooting his one legged girlfriend while Dick gets rooted by a line of inmates. That scene had the audience cracking up. There were a lot of visual gags and one liners that produced the odd chuckle, however the movie needed to move along quicker and not dwindle so much.

The bad stuff: I liked the NZ references, but did not enjoy the horror. I felt this movie was full of cheap laughs. People being cut by glass and having their limbs cut off is not funny and they seem to have someone getting very hurt or disfigured every 10 minutes. The acting was mediocre and the script was in need of improvement. Overall I liked the story but the dialog could have been better. There was a lot of sentimentality that didn't feel real or necessary.

Overall it was a low budget kiwi movie so it is quite impressive considering. I think there should be a well thought out sequel with some better production and script writing, the story idea is good and has potential to be a great movie. This movie however, was not.

P.S Be sure to hang around for the credits for some very impressive Back of the Y stunts, 3 minutes of footage that is better than the whole 90 odd minutes of this film!
