A good new intro; Light shows a great quality, L uses Misa love to Light to help finding Kira.

Underrated and Thoroughly Entertaining

I think this might be one of the most entertaining episodes in the entire show. L's deadpan delivery and physical comedy really shine in this episode, and the chemistry between him and the "new" Misa and Light is palpable. Earlier on in the episode the stakes are high, as L and the rest of the task force reach an impasse debating whether or not to arrest the Yotsuba executives immediately in order to save the lives of their targets. Getting to watch how Light would handle the situation if he hadn't come into possession of the Death Note is really compelling, and the fact that the rest of the task force (minus L of course) is so on-board with his reasoning speaks to how easily the power of the Death Note can corrupt someone with a strong black-and-white sense of justice. The plot remains engaging and character dynamics continue to evolve. This is a really strong episode that shows the range of tones this show can handle. The new OP is a welcome addition too, ripe with foreshadowing and psychotic energy.

Blackmail

Light calls one of the members in the meeting and blackmails him.

L wants to separate their investigations as he feels they can no longer work together. He wants Misa to help and she gives him a kiss on the cheek.

I know I start by commenting on whether the episode was good or not, but there's no way not to comment on the new opening. From the first time I watched/heard it I thought it was horrible, there are few animes I've watched in my life but this new opening, without a doubt, is in the top 3 worst openings, simply horrible. How sad this is. I saw the comments about Light's personality and they are very divided, and I am too because at the same time for me there was no change because at the beginning of that first episode, before he had contact with the notebook, he already has thoughts of justice, which is bored. But also at that same moment I believe there is a change because even before contact with the Death Note, he shows himself to be egocentric and even rude, things we haven't seen since Light lost possession of the notebook, now he's a good guy , wanting to help. Sometimes he thinks it wouldn't be a bad idea if he were Kira, but Light's (new) personality is very strange. Episode twenty watched on March 6, 2024.
