On the fly, the Kira Task Force infiltrates enemy territory (a skyscraper) unnoticed and with a mattress. It suggests bypassing security codes and surveillance cameras in an instant and being able to set up unhindered in a select room on the 18th floor or lower. Matsuda, falling from the 19th floor, lands on a mattress propped up at an angle on a lower balcony. The mattress is unsupported, which means that the impact of him landing on it would bend it over, sending Matsuda to his death rather than catching him. Visually, Matsuda sort of lands on the lower balcony's edge, thus supporting his weight -- which is impossible as gravity would pull him straight down past the edge, not over at an angle onto it. He bounces on it like it's a trampoline or a set of box springs, not a mattress.
