Female Cops go Kalle Blomkvist in Stockholm
martin_g_karlsson11 May 2009
This is a film that is what we in Sweden call "småputtrig", i.e. it kind of just "simmers along", like a pot of stew on a stove. Its not going nowhere, and not much is really happening, except a bit of heating and the creation of small bubbles. Actually, this film also simmers on a rather low heating, a 4 out of 10 heating, that is. Its never above a 5 in the funniness respect.

As to tie together the story of two girls trying to get into the police academy in Stockholm, they get to become mavericks, tracking down a criminal in the silliest "Kalle Blomkvist" fashion imaginable. This lowers the whole film, a couple of extra degrees, and reduces its "småputtrighet".

Semi-bad

The movie seems sponsored by the Swedish police. It is not a comedy at all. I laughed maybe 0 times out of 2 attempts to a joke. That it is advertised as a comedy is a joke in itself.

I think that the actors and the script is okay. I felt that I had to watch the movie until the end. It is worthwhile to discuss in a cultural or political context since it is incredibly politically correct. Almost textbook-like as the females and immigrants become accepted in the police force just as one would suspect the dream situation for the Swedish government is. I usually don't mind but this is too blatant. It reeks of massproduction even though I do hope that the director disagrees.

Mind the cr... I mean gap
kosmasp31 January 2022
One character misspeaks on the title of the movie (international one that is, which is the "mind the gap" I mention in my summary line) ... cynics may say that he doesn't actually misspeak. I wouldn't say that - but the joke and the opportunity to use it, is right there.

Having said that, we have an unlikely meeting and friendship here. Meeting may be a bit far stretched ... collision more like it. But of course it seems like it had to happen. Pacing is quite slow and the drama may not be as exciting for some as it is for others. But the acting is more than rock solid - and while you have to fight off some cliches, if you suspend your disbelief(s), you'll have some fun along the way. Obstacles included or is it gaps?

Se upp för den här filmen

This is not good. I found myself enjoying more and more Swedish movies lately so i thought is should give this one a try. There was a lot of hype around it because the director is a already famous actress. The movie is about two girls who ends up applying to the police academy at the same time, its about their families and boyfriends etc.

The thing that most annoyed me is the weird musical choices and the awful timing. If you see it you'll agree. Then the relationship between the two girls and their fathers, which seems to be the biggest part of the plot, and its just so silly and stupid. I mean you couldn't care less about it. I cant really find anything to write i just saw that the commentary was empty so i thought i should contribute. It really sucks and you'd think the director would have picked a better script or done something more to it but instead its just crap. Boring, boring, stupid, bad acting. Good night

Sweden's version of police academy
abothin16 February 2008
this is both emotional and funny. one of many few really good Swedish films out there... big credits to Helena Bergström for her excellent work.

First of I would like to point out how hard it is for people to get into the police academy in Sweden. the standard is higher then the most country's.

And actually thats whats this movie is all about.

secondly the humor in this movie is quite funny, really funny in some parts. the family plots whit the father problems is as Im made to believe based upon a true story.

You could say that this is a Swedish version of the police academy. there is only one movie based on the same sort of movies from Sweden and it is Kopps.. a really nice piece.

but again thanks for this lovely movie..

Worth seeing

Warning: Spoilers
I would have to say I agree with martin_g_karlsson on one comment. The way the two girls try to 'catch' the bad guy definitely lowers the film. That part could have been better. I still, however, think that the film is definitely worth seeing and I think the acting is quite good. I definitely think it's funny, although you won't fall of your chair from laughing. The movie has a body and I think the characters are quite believable. I think Nina Zanjani, who plays Yasmin, stands out in her acting. The way she talks when she expresses her feelings to her dad, the way she looks at the guy before kissing him, I think she does a wonderful job. The movie touched me from time to time. There is love, friendship, forgiveness, pride. Göran Persson said the music choice annoyed him. I did not perceive the music choice as weird and actually enjoyed the music in the movie. I am a fan of Swedish movies and it is definitely not the best Swedish movie out there, but worth seeing nonetheless.

Mycket sevärd film som speglar svenska samhället
br_odin15 April 2008
I feel that Helena Bergström has captured the Swedish society in an honest matter. Maybe she is able to due to the relation with Colin Nutley, who has also been put through oddities in order to adapt to the Swedish system.

It is picturing how hard it is for well educated immigrants (with for Swedes odd names) into Sweden to actually get to work with what they have been educated/trained to do. They usually end up in a cleaning-or construction-crew or as in the picture, an ice-cream-salesman, or in the case of the dad, a world famous Thorax-surgeon that ends up as a subway-operator. Also you learn that in Sweden, connections is everything. Without them you will not get very far!

She also captured the spontaneity and immaturity of many "tweenagers" in Sweden today, and did it in an entertaining way.

I liked this movie since I thought it was a funny entertaining movie with a deeper message and an honest screenshot of how it is in Sweden.

Highly underrated
basmeyer2227 February 2022
It is a great feelgood movie with only some poor choice of sound designing here and there.

Watching quite some Helena Bergström movies where she is an actor there is a strong influence of her to be felt in it.

Which I like. It has a nice 'speed' as well.

Not too much Police Academy stuff in it, something I was a bit afraid of.

Very recommendable.
