- When the boys' mother arrives at the end of summer to pick them up and take them home, they learn that she has a new business partner - Klaus. Gustav discovers a time hole in Lucard's castle that keeps Lucard young.
- Max and Chris's mother Eileen makes a surprise visit to announce her promotion to senior vice-president and her re-assignment to Philadelphia, just as soon as she trains her replacement--Klaus! Meanwhile, Helsing is testing a theory that vampires are trapped outside of time. He postulates that, if he can find this hole in the fabric of time, he may be able to reverse vampirism. Based on some blurred photos he took of Lucard's great room, Helsing suspects the "door" to that hellhole may be right there in Lucard's castle. That night, Helsing goes snooping in Lucard's great room and accidentally opens a wall that leads into a void behind the fireplace. Unfortunately, Lucard catches him. When Helsing whips out the Cross of the Magyars, Lucard leaps into the void. Just then, Klaus shows up. Klaus explains to his father that Lucard often uses this "refuge" and that, once inside it, he can emerge anywhere. And Lucard has emerged...in Helsing's living room where he is just about to bite Max when, back at the castle, Klaus has a fit of anger and tosses a stake into the void. Lucard can sense the entry, drops Max, and goes back into the void. When Helsing tells Klaus that this "refuge" may be the key to his return to humankind, Klaus screams that he doesn't want to become human again and rushes for his father's neck. Helsing holds up the Cross of the Magyars, and Klaus is thrust back into the void. Max and Chris, noticing that the Cross of the Magyars has been removed from the wall, go to the castle where they find their distraught uncle seated in a chair staring into the fireplace. As the three of them head out the door, Max picks the Cross off the floor. It arches sparks into the void and suddenly Klaus reappears...as a human. As Klaus and Gustav hug each other, Lucard emerges from the void. Lucard grabs Klaus and pulls him screaming back into the void. Helsing takes the Cross and follows them, not knowing where they have gone or where they will end up. Max and Chris return home where their mother reports that she just received a call from Uncle Gustav saying that he will need to be away for a while, so Sophie is going back to Philadelphia with the Townsends. In the meantime, Helsing has left his vampire hunting notes to Max.
