Funniest episode of the season
lckybys42015 February 2007
What can I say about "Tall Tales" other than it was the best episode this season. Kripke kept us laughing from the beginning to the end. There was so much tension between Sam and Dean that it reminded all of us of last season's "Hell House." Which is what Kripke intended for this episode. Sam slashed Dean's tires and Dean stole Sam's laptop. Or so they thought. Really it was someone or something else that stole it. I'm not going to give away what or who did it, but watching the brother's different points of views was hilarious. From Sam hugging some random guy to Dean drinking purple nurples this was the episode to watch whether or not you are a fan of the show. And of course all of you who enjoy the "Wincest" there was the wrestling scene between Sam and Dean. I can't wait for the DVD to come out for this season because I bet there are a lot of outtakes from this episode. Jared had his scene going "Blah, blah, blah, blah.... BLAH!!!" and Jensen had his scene eating all the chocolates or whatever it was. And both actors overacting was right on, making this episode even better. I bet they messed up many times in this episode. Of course the next new episode won't be on for an entire month. I guess I can start focusing on my studies now (yeah, right.) For any of you who missed any of the episode from "Playthings" on should start watching next week. I know I might tune in just to watch those hot, sexy Winchester boys. The next new episode is back to serious Supernatural, but it still looks good.

Masterful comedy

Jensen Ackles' comedic skills are amplified by the great Richard Speight Jr an extremely versatile actor (Band of Brothers. Open Water 2, Kings of Con) who is comic genius. Wish he was a regular. Jensen is so hilarious in this episode with his dry sense of humor, superb timing and absolute immersion of Dean Winchester.

Perfection
CubsandCulture14 September 2019
Not only is this one of the funniest episodes of the show it very much allows the show to have its cake and eat it too. The initial main idea of the series was a couple of guys investigating urban legends; three classic urban legends get their due without breaking the mythos (too much). Shiban rings out every single story beat/idea you would want from this premise and it is just existentially pleasing to see the Dean from Sam's perspective, and vice versa. The trickster is character that ends up having a tone of classic material and this is simply a wonderful introduction to the character. This is a highpoint of season 2.

The Introduction of the Trickster...
Red_Identity9 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the funniest episodes of the series, and the one that started the comedy being thrown into the series, so in that respect, it is to be admired.

We start off with a creepy scene of a female spirit, then we cut off to an alligator in the sewers, and then to top it all off, an alien abduction! Of course, this is the introduction of a tricksters that makes illusions appear. The trickster will be a key villain through the series, all the way to Season 5, so in that respect, we know we will get more of him. He also is involved with the funniest episodes of the show, and some of the best writing. One of Season 2's best.

We get introduced to the best character this series has had. The sibling squabbles are hilarious and cute.

Too Funny for words

Warning: Spoilers
I think I broke something laughing. Dean was, well, Dean with the Purple Nurples and his website choice was what got me started. Then the two different stories in the college bar kept me euphoric. His grief over the Matalicar's plight was real, and his anger with Sam is clear. Sam had quite a few noticeable acts as well, ranging from Dean's account of the roommate's lack of feeling to his laptop(His one true love). But Bobby took the cake. His annoyance and with the boys snapped everything into focus pretty fast, whether or not it helped in the end is up in the air. He kept it real when the Alien abducted the college Frat boy and the alligator snapped up the science person. It left me mumbling all night, and I hope that those who missed have a connection with a dvr person or something of the like, because this episode was (in my mind) probably the funniest in all of both seasons.

Tall Tales / Bad Blood
jbs6418 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Ah, yes, the good old days of Mulder and Scully. Writer John Shiban's "Tall Tales" episode couldn't be any more X-Files. For those of you who remember writer Vince Gilligan's X-Files episode "Bad Blood" you will detect the similarities.

John Shiban wrote some of X-Files best episodes: Dreamland I&II (with Gilligan), Field Trip (with Frank Spotnitz), The Pine Bluff Variant, Monday (with Gilligan and Spotnitz) and Milagro. Vince Gilligan also wrote fantastic X-Files episodes (Drive, Hungry, Paperhearts, Unruhe and Je Souhaite).

Loved Shiban's "Skin" but thought of Gilligan's "Small Potatoes" (softer, gentler version of the shape-shifter). Loved Edlund's "Simon Says" but thought of Gilligan's "Pusher" and "Kitsunegari" (with Tim Minear).

Although Shiban is impressively holding his own on Supernatural, Eric Kripke might consider getting these three writers back together again in the same room (Shiban, Gilligan and Spotnitz). If the boys are not on speaking terms, tell them to kiss and make up. If they're asking for too much money, give it to them. Supernatural fans await their combined writing magic, or more importantly, the Winchester Brothers await.

If Chris Carter isn't busy, maybe he can also write an episode or two. Who could forget X-Files episodes Darkness Falls, Triangle, Syzygy, and my personal favorite, How the Ghosts Stole Christmas ~ Lydia: "I don't show my hole to just anyone." Mulder: (rather disgusted)"Why are you showing it to me?" ~ Sorry...I couldn't resist. I still laugh when I think of that line.

loved it!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This has to be one of my favourite episodes of both seasons. it was written fantastically, the tension was brilliant, and the Jensen with his huge hamster cheeks, and Jared's 'blah blah blah-blah' act was fantastic. It was great to see the boys perspectives from the same story. and i want a purple nurple! and the ending was brilliant! i hope the trickster makes another appearance! priceless as always, Bobby's part in the ep was great too, bobby is cool lol, i love the manly rapport he has with the boys, almost like an...extremely...older brother....or a caring uncle :D this was a fantastic episode, kudos to all involved, its nice to have one or two of these eps dotted about, just to lighten the mood once in a while... XsarahX

too damn funny!

An entertaining change of pace
LaFeeChartreuse23 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Considering the intensity and angst levels of most of season 2, this episode was a refreshing break in the drama. I imagine it must have been a lot of fun for the actors too, being able to basically play parodies of themselves in each other's distorted recollections.

About the only thing I really didn't like about it was the idea that it's supposed to be possible to kill what amounts to a deity with... a pointed stick? Come on, staking vampires at least has some folklore behind it, but I'm not aware of any myth that suggests you can stake gods, or even demigods. That part sounded a bit too contrived - basically just an attempt to force-fit a mythic archetype into the monster-of-the-week mold.

I don't know if the above really counts as a spoiler, but I figure, when in doubt, better to spoiler-tag than not...

Funny

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best episodes for season 2, which comes out on DVD on September 11. The plot ploy of Sam's and Dean's tension towards one another is excellent. The trickster uses again them. Everyone's perception of the story is different, as we see between the two brothers. Sam and Dean both over exaggerate one another's behaviour. Slow, dancing with an alien, and being eating by a sewer alligator is a couple of the tricksters ploys. Tall Tales over the top and humorous ending release the humorous tension of the story. 8 out of 10. The trickster really looked like a goof. I love the trickster's more a** than a toilet seat comment. I know a couple people the trickster should visit.

Outstanding Episode
attipton11 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best of the funny episodes. The dueling points of view are some of the best scenes in the show so far. This episode introduces the Trickster and he's one of the best villains/monsters in the entire show.

We also get to see Bobby again. Showing up, giving the boys a verbal beatdown for letting the Trickster tie them in knots..... Always love Bobby.

Definitely don't skip this episode. It's even better on the rewatch too. Honestly, the slowdancing alien is one of the better gags the Trickster ever pulled. The alligator and the ghost girl were messed up, sure. But abducting the guy that loves hazing pledges and probing the crap out of his butthole? Amazing.

The trickster
zombiehigh185 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I know a lot of people like the Trickster, but I can't say I feel the same. The guy is nice I can't deny but he bothers me a lot, he seems to just enjoy toying with people's lives, especially Sam and Dean, to a great extent and not bothering what it does to them. I know most villains on this show pretty much do the same. But for someone who watched the show up to literally the last episode aired, I may have hated him because of the season 3's "Mystery Spot".

"Tall Tales" reminds the viewer of last season's "Hell house", where the Winchester boys were having a prank war on each other, yet this time it's the Trickster that is doing the pranks on them and deadly ones on others.

No one can deny that this episode can put a smile on your face with its various funny moments, starting from the Sam vs. Dean stories, to the "Lady in red" alien slow dance, The Siamese twins vs. conjoined twins conversation, Sam's "Blah, blah,blah,....", The "you're too precious for this world" hug, Down to the Sam and Dean fight.

Mostly, I Loved how bobby kept listening to the boys arguing like kids in kindergarten. But I'm still not crazy about the Trickster.

The Trickster
claudio_carvalho16 July 2008
Sam and Dean are upset with each other and they call Bobby to help them in their investigation in the campus of the Crawford Hall College. When the professor of Ethics and Morality falls from the window of his room, they discover that an urban legend tells that the place has been haunted for thirty years by a student. Then, a pledge master claims that he has been abducted and abused by aliens and a research scientist is eaten by an alligator in the sewers. Bobby advises that all of these supernatural events are actually the work of a Trickster that has the power to make real whatever he wants.

I found "Tall Tales' not funny, and actually a little boring. The disagreement of Dean and Sam, telling different versions of the same story, is annoying. The conclusion is the greatest part of this below average show. My vote is seven.
