Words fail me.

I can't believe I'm only the 2nd person to review this!

This movie was at the back of my mind for years and years until I ordered the DVD online and it wasn't in a box, it was in this flat piece of cardboard and entirely in Czech.

Basically what I expected: episodes of the macabre and the strange, always with a certain sense of humor, all delivered in retro stop-motion with grotesque puppets and pingu vocals.

I like to think that this is sort of giving us an idea of how aliens might react if they saw this secret dissection of human life; a sort of meditation of loneliness which defies easy explanation even on the most obvious level.

Creepy for sure, it's the banality of a lot of the weirdness that might be the most disarming thing about it. But trust me things do get a but too real more than a couple of times.

This just needs to be seen to be believed.

Very good Warning: Spoilers
"One Night in one City" is a compilation of short stories that take place in a dark city, where strange beings had to deal with strange, surreal situations. I found this Czech animated film to be original, interesting and enjoyable. I liked all the characters, and I found the stories to be charming and funny(Despite the darkness of them) This movie has no dialogue, only music and sounds. In many aspects, this reminds me a lot to the animated film "Krysar"(The Pied Piper of Hamelin) but with a more light-hearted and optimistic tone. My favorite story was the first one, which is the best. But the others are quite interesting too. This movie deserves more appreciation and recognition. I recommend it to anyone.
