- President Wayne Palmer: [Shaking hands] it's good to see you again sir
- Ambassador: First, allow me to express my country's shock and deep regret over the devastating attack in California
- President Wayne Palmer: Thank you sir
- Ambassador: Any assistance you require, you need only ask
- President Wayne Palmer: I'm asking you now sir: that's why your here. I believe you know Hamri Al-Assad
- Hamri Al-Assad: [Greeting him] Mr. Ambassador
- Ambassador: [to Palmer] I have never met Mr. Assad in person but I know him by reputation. His organization has carried out repeated terrorist actions against my country
- Hamri Al-Assad: [to the Ambassador] your own policies precipitated those actions
- Ambassador: That's your justification for killing innocent people?
- Hamri Al-Assad: You and I define "innocent" in different ways
- Ambassador: My own Deputy lost his seven year old son in one of your bombings: that is how I define "innocent"
- President Wayne Palmer: [to the Ambassador] we are not here to "air" past differences
- Ambassador: Then why are we here?
- President Wayne Palmer: In our last meeting I informed you we were in contact with Assad. You told me it was a positive step towards peace
- Ambassador: And I meant it at that time but I must confess, after the last attack, I didn't expect you to be in the same room with... him and I'm not so sure I care to remain here either
- Hamri Al-Assad: [Sarcastically] it is no more pleasant for me, your "Excellency"
- President Wayne Palmer: [to Assad] would you give us a moment?
- Hamri Al-Assad: [Before walking away] certainly
- President Wayne Palmer: Assad is here because of the attack, to be friends sir, we have three more nuclear weapons loose in my country in the hands of terrorists
- Ambassador: We didn't know that
- President Wayne Palmer: In less than one hour, Assad is going on national television and issue a statement: it will be a global appeal to extremists. Now he's going to urge them to put down their arms and engage in peaceful negotiations with the west. We are hoping to compel to someone to come forward with any information regarding those nuclear weapons
- Ambassador: A petition like this, coming from Assad, it could have a profound effect
- President Wayne Palmer: We're counting on that
- Ambassador: What'd you need from us?
- President Wayne Palmer: I want a statement of support from your Prime Minister and I want it to fall right on the heels of Assad's
- Ambassador: Mr. Assad is a polarizing figure in my country: a public endorsement of him could have grave political consequences for the Prime Minister
- President Wayne Palmer: Then you tell your Prime Minister we have a carrier group operating less than twenty five miles off your shores. My advisors are "pressing" me hard for military response, so if we are attacked again, I won't be able to hold them off
- Ambassador: This is sounding like an ultimatum
- President Wayne Palmer: This is not an ultimatum, I'm merely pointing out the fact that neither the Prime Minister nor I have the "luxury" of worrying about the consequences on a day like today. I am putting my Presidency on the line so please stop handing me excuses. Get on the phone and make this happen
- Jack Bauer: I think I might have a lead
- Bill Buchanan: What is it?
- Jack Bauer: Charles Logan
- Bill Buchanan: Logan?
- Jack Bauer: I just spoke to him: he says he has information Gredenko
- Bill Buchanan: How the hell did you trace this to Logan?
- Jack Bauer: My father, I need you to get me a helicopter to take me to him
- Bill Buchanan: His in his retreat in Hidden Valley under house arrest
- Jack Bauer: House arrest? How is that possible? He was involved in the murder of David Palmer
- Jack Bauer: He brokered a "closed door" deal. He pled guilty to Obstruction of justice, the public never knew of his involvement in aiding terrorists or in David Palmer's assassination
- Jack Bauer: Get me that helicopter
- Bill Buchanan: We have one in the area, it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes for it to be rerouted to your location
- Bruce Carson: [after restraining Lennox and gagging him in a boiler room] we're going to have to make it look like a suicide
- Reed Pollock: No, eliminating the President is for the good of the country right? It's the only way to get him out of Office: killing Tom Lennox only benefits us
- Bruce Carson: We don't have any choice
- Reed Pollock: Tom Lennox is a very smart man. Now I think once Vice President Daniels is "holding the reigns", backing the policies Lennox himself created, we can convince him to keep quiet
- Bruce Carson: I'm not gambling my life on Lennox's "good judgment"
- Reed Pollock: It's a risk but it's a risk I am willing to take. We're not cold blooded murders, we're just trying to save our country. Either way, we do not have time to resolve this now, Assad goes before the cameras within the hour. You said it would take twenty five minutes to assemble this?
- Bruce Carson: Twenty five to thirty: you better get started now. We're going to frame Assad for this assassination and this bomb has to explode when they're both together: we're never going to have a better chance than now
- Chloe O'Brian: [after see him frustrated at his work station] what is it?
- Morris O'Brian: I'm doubling these vectors for the Homeland subnet, I've been trying and trying, and it just won't go through
- Chloe O'Brian: [while looking at his computer screen] check your SIP adapter
- Morris O'Brian: What about my SIP adapter?
- Chloe O'Brian: You've specified the wrong slot assignment
- Morris O'Brian: [Referring to himself after seeing his mistake] oh, what an idiot: thank you, that'll work
- Chloe O'Brian: Did you call your sponsor?
- Morris O'Brian: I'm getting tired of you giving me the "third degree"
- Chloe O'Brian: I covered for you, I didn't tell anyone you took a drink
- Morris O'Brian: I didn't take a drink, I spat it out, and I told you
- Chloe O'Brian: You promised me you'd call your sponsor
- Morris O'Brian: And I did
- Chloe O'Brian: Well?
- Morris O'Brian: We had this long talk, I feel a lot better, really
- Chloe O'Brian: You're not acting like it
- Morris O'Brian: [Jokingly] why don't we install a breathalyzer at my station? Will that satisfy you?
- Chloe O'Brian: I just want to make sure your ok
- Morris O'Brian: I helped terrorists arm a nuclear bomb today, I'm not going to be ok for a long time: that doesn't mean I can't do my job
- Jack Bauer: [Over the phone] I think we have a way of finding Gredenko
- President Wayne Palmer: To my understanding, we lost Gredenko: you're telling me we have a new lead?
- Jack Bauer: Yes Sir, the lead is Charles Logan
- President Wayne Palmer: Logan?
- Jack Bauer: Yes Sir, I'm with him now. He claims his Administration had dealings with Gredenko and he has a contact that will lead us to him
- President Wayne Palmer: Who?
- Jack Bauer: Anatoly Markov, his a Russian Consul in Los Angeles
- President Wayne Palmer: When we learned about Gredenko, I placed a call to the Consul myself and that's a dead end
- Jack Bauer: Not according to Logan: he wants to meet with Markov in the Consulate, in person. He says that's only way we can get the information we need
- President Wayne Palmer: Logan is under house arrest
- Jack Bauer: That's why I'm calling, we need an Executive Order granting Logan a temporary furlough
- President Wayne Palmer: Do you realize what you're asking me? Logan was behind the assassination of my brother
- Jack Bauer: Sir, I would not be calling if I didn't think this was necessary
- President Wayne Palmer: I don't trust this man: this could be some "maneuver" on his part to gain his freedom
- Jack Bauer: I understand but I think we need to take a chance on him. I will enter the Consulate with Logan as part of his security detail. Sir I believe we can trust him. I think his after "something else"
- President Wayne Palmer: And what exactly would that be?
- Jack Bauer: Redemption
- President Wayne Palmer: I have no desire to facilitate any kind of "redemption" for Charles Logan
- Jack Bauer: Right now I think his only way to find Gredenko and the bombs
- President Wayne Palmer: Put him on
- Jack Bauer: [Handing Logan the phone and sits down in front of him] he wants to talk to you
- Charles Logan: Hello Mr. President
- President Wayne Palmer: I want to hear it from "your" lips: tell me why I should agree to this?
- Charles Logan: Because you need me Mr. President, it's as simple as that
- President Wayne Palmer: I can talk to the Russian Consul myself
- Charles Logan: Yes Sir you can do that but with all due respect, you'd be wasting your time. I have a prior relationship with Markov, we can "exploit." Again, with all due respect Sir, I have more experience with people of Markov's character
- President Wayne Palmer: You mean criminals like yourself?
- Charles Logan: I know how he thinks and that's an advantage you can't afford to ignore
- President Wayne Palmer: I want you to know this isn't going to be some move to escape custody. I will commit the resources of my Administration to hunt you down
- Charles Logan: I can assure you Mr. President that I have nothing like that in mind. Several years ago, I was in the same situation you're in and I reached out to your brother for counsel. David helped me successfully navigate through that crisis
- President Wayne Palmer: Yes he did and you repaid him by killing him
- Charles Logan: I would like to do for you what your brother did for me, I would like to help you get through this
- President Wayne Palmer: Don't make the mistake that this represents any kind of "forgiveness" on my part
- Charles Logan: I understand that Mr. President but I hope over time to earn your forgiveness
- President Wayne Palmer: Put Jack on the phone
- Jack Bauer: Yes Mr. President?
- President Wayne Palmer: I'm granting this furlough: just make it count
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] I'll do my best
- Chloe O'Brian: [Talking privately] I need you to tell me the truth: have you been drinking?
- Morris O'Brian: [Jokingly] I just had a couple beers love, I didn't think anybody would mind
- Chloe O'Brian: Don't be sarcastic. Your data mergers are incomplete, I had to cover for you, I just told Nadia
- Morris O'Brian: What was incomplete?
- Morris O'Brian: [after showing him the report] oh, for crying out loud, these sectors are irrelevant, I only fill them in when I file my final report
- Chloe O'Brian: I know that. Nadia wants these completed
- Morris O'Brian: Nadia only wants to prove to Buchanan she was right and I shouldn't be here
- Chloe O'Brian: No one is out to get you
- Morris O'Brian: Even I know I shouldn't be here: there's a big part of me that wants to go home, crawl into bed, and forget this day ever happened but I'm staying because CTU needs me
- President Wayne Palmer: [Over the phone] Logan's almost ready: we should be at the Consulate in forty five minutes, what've you got on Markov?
- Jack Bauer: We ran his name through the interagency subnet. He's a career diplomat, assigned Consul General in 1996. Prior to that, he worked in the Ministry of foreign Affairs with the Russian Federation. No red flags from NSA, Interpol, or CIA. As far as their concerned, his clean. What if Logan isn't telling the truth?
- President Wayne Palmer: We're out of options, I have to trust him
- Jack Bauer: You know we have no jurisdiction at the Consulate
- President Wayne Palmer: Just make sure you have teams ready in case Logan's lead pans out
- Jack Bauer: [Before hanging up] alright
- Bill Buchanan: [During a CTU briefing] according to Charles Logan, Anatoly Markov head of the Russian Consulate in Los Angeles has information on Gredenko. Logan and Bauer are going to see Markov now. I want COMM locked on any communication outside and possibly inside the Consulate. Morris, are you still the lead on decoding diplomatic communication leaving the Consulate?
- Morris O'Brian: Yes
- Bill Buchanan: I want you to hand that over to Chloe
- Morris O'Brian: [Surprised] why?
- Bill Buchanan: Because of what you've been through today, I'm not sure you can handle it: we can't afford any mistakes
- Morris O'Brian: Look, I'm...
- Bill Buchanan: [Interrupts him] Chloe, I want you to take over Morris' workload on the Consulate
- Morris O'Brian: Hold on, I said...
- Chloe O'Brian: [Interrupts him] it's ok Morris
- Morris O'Brian: [Before standing up] no, it's not ok. I'd like to say something to everyone, I'm very sorry that I gave the programming device to Fayed, if I could take it back I would but I can't and if you don't think I can do my job Mr. Buchanan then I should leave but I can do my job
- Bill Buchanan: Ok Morris, I'll give your task full priority
- Morris O'Brian: [Sits back now] thank you
- Nadia Yassir: Mr. Buchanan, I have to disagree with your decision. I'm sorry Morris, I just don't think you're ready
- Bill Buchanan: Your objection is noted Nadia, but my decision stands
- Reed Pollock: [while Lennox is gagged and restrained] sir, if I take that off of you and I'm going to clean up that cut: if you try to call out, Carson will kill you and I cannot stop him, you understand?
- Tom Lennox: [Referring to the plan of assassinating Palmer and Assad after Reed takes off the gag] you've got to put a stop to this
- Reed Pollock: No, when this is done and the President is out of the way, I think you will see things differently. I think you will see that this is "better" for our country
- Tom Lennox: No, you're going to destroy this country: you're just as bad as Fayed
- Reed Pollock: There must've been a moment when you were on board with this plan. Are you playing with us again? Or did you change your mind along the way? I need to know
- Tom Lennox: Know this, I was against you from the start
