The better half of the Jet Fuel Saga . . .

. . . comprising almost eight minutes altogether of The Bullwinkle Show's eighth airing is the second one (or part 16), titled CANOES WHO? Or LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAK, featuring--as proclaimed by the narrator--"the strangest boat race ever held." Beginning over the frigid waves of Lakes Superior and Michigan, followed by a portage from Chicago to Detroit, and continuing through Lake Erie to the locks of the St. Lawrence Seaway before concluding across smaller rivers, tiny creeks, irrigation ditches, mud puddles, city parks, Tunnels of Love, spraying fire hydrants and sawmill flumes, this segment becomes hypnotically riveting with Boris B.'s cadence of "Row, row, row . . . " and Bullwinkle's imperative "Bail, bail, bail . . . !"

Two in a Canoe, Sort of!

This entire offering has to do with a race to Washington by our two heroes and their dimwitted enemies, Boris and Natasha. It seems that the spies are disguised as Native Americans (Injuns, as Rocky calls them) and they are trying to get the Mooseberry Bush to the capitol. It is quite hilarious as they cut through every water source known to man. "Rumpelstiltskin" is the Fairy Tale as the little guy is seen as kind of a Hollywood producer, set on getting a fair maiden's firstborn child. I'm surprised at how little effort was put into the writing of these things, making them less clever than they could be. Still, it was OK. Peabody and Sherman visit Sir Walter Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth I. This one really falls short of entertainment. Still the boys are able to make this episode worthy of your time.
