Great character development
Gordon-113 September 2008
This film is about the encounter and the subsequent erotic tension between a hunky doorman and a college guy.

Though "Doorman" is short and low budget, it is quite stylishly shot. A memorable scene is when the doorman has internal struggle in his staff room, the close up shot produces a vertigo inducing effect which is powerful and suited to the scene's atmosphere.

The character development is also done well. In the space of just 17 minutes, I have grown sympathetic of Diego, and I dislike Garrett. Diego is a convincing character, his fascination with Garrett, the subsequent confusion are portrayed well. The acting is great, the tension between the two characters are presented engagingly. I enjoyed this short film.

Unnerving but powerful
preppy-33 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Diego (Jamil Mena) is a very handsome, muscular doorman to an apartment building. A college student named Garret (Stephen Sheffer) also lives there and hits on Diegoi. Diego resists at first but then falls in love. However events occur which shatter Diego's love for Garret and leads to a disturbing but satisfactory conclusion.

Quick and no budget but very well done gay short. There's very little dialogue--almost the entire story is conveyed by the actors looks and body language. Sheffer is OK but Mena is excellent. He has the lead and he has to go through every emotion silently. The conclusion is powerful and a little depressing but it IS a happy ending (in a way). Worth catching.

admirable work

a doorman. and a costumer. a demand from the last. the struggle against his feelings of the first. the dialogue reduced at few words. and a fascinating exploration of the fantasies of a student, the duty of a simple doorman, wise manner to build the tension and the beautiful-dark end. it is more than a good story- it is the story of its characters. and the motif for this is real simple - the art of script to give more than one side of the personality of them. this is the detail who gives to this short film force, coherence and admirable credibility. and each of them does it more than illustration of a delicate theme but a form of poem about duty, feelings and right choice after the impact with the truth.off course, Jamil Mena is the master of his character grow up and the important explanation for define "Doorman" as a not ordinary short film.
