OpinionThe current popularity of violent gangster films also lies in the fact that they are more suited for the pan-Indian formula – something the south Indian industries are keen to exploit in the post-’Baahubali’ era.Abilash Joshiy’s King of Kotha (2023), starring Dulquer Salmaan, is the latest gangster film to hit the big screens. Interestingly, it went up against Rdx (2023) for Onam, a film where three trained martial artists take on a local gangster group. A couple of weeks before these films came out, the big release in the south was Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer (2023), starring Rajinikanth as a former policeman who is at war with gangsters. All these films have heroes with grey shades, and use violence as a form of entertainment. For instance, in Jailer, Rajinikanth’s Muthuvel Pandian beheads a gangster in a close-up shot. The scene is written to emphasise the superstar’s swag and is meant to be darkly funny.

Chakri Toleti's upcoming Billa 2: The Beginning is among the most anticipated Tamil language films of 2012. The film is a sequel to 2007's Billa, starring Ajith Kumar, who returns in the titular role for the new film. Billa was a remake with aspects of both Shah Rukh Khan's 2006 Don, and 1980's Billa, starrring Rajnikanth, itself a remake of 1978 Hindi film Don starring Amitabh Bachchan. The family tree of Don remakes and sequels is getting crazier every year. 2007's Billa was a massive success, and not just commercially. While the 2006 Hindi version was among the finest Bollywood films of the 2000's, the Tamil version was also one of the slickest in that industry, and remains a high water mark for action in...

I don't really know anything about this film, but the first time I saw that teaser poster, I was sold!Panjaa is the new film from Power Star Pawan Kalyan, and the debut Telugu film from veteran of Tamil cinema, Vishnuvardhan. Pawan Kalyan is one of Tollywood's biggest stars, carrying everything from hardcore action like this film to sappy romances on his back. Vishnuvardhan has made a pretty big splash in Tamil cinema, especially with his Don remake, Billa, from 2007.The supporting cast and crew also look pretty solid on this film. Pan-Indian character Jackie Shroff is set to play the villain, with Brahmanandam and Ali on set to provide comic relief. The music is in the capable hands of Yuvan Shankar Raja and the cinematography...

If there has to be one film that made high waves for Ajith Kumar during times of his distress, it can be none other than his mind-boggling action packed thriller titled ‘Billa’, which was a remake of yesteryear superstar Rajnikanth film with the same title. After three years of time, the maker of Billa is ready with script for its sequel titled ‘Billa-2’.
Ajith Kumar is now busy listening to various scripts as he is planning to couple of projects at the same time. Since, ‘Mangaatha’ will be taking off during the mid of August, the actor is now utilizing the time for the sake of finalizing script. With the attempts of impressing Ajith Kumar, Vishnuvardhan seems to have made an announcement through press channels that he has got the script for Billa-2 ready and will start shooting whenever, the actor gives Green Signal.

When everybody in tinsel town is awaiting the official confirmations of Ajith Kumar’s 50th film, there happens to be a sort of perplexed scenarios amongst the team. Here comes an unconfirmed buzz that Gowtham Menon may not director Ajith Kumar’s 50th film while Venkat Prabhu is likely to bag the offer.
Apart from this film, Ajith Kumar seems to have been holding discussions with Sivaji Productions for a film that will be made simultaneously in Chennai. If what we heard from the closer sources is believed to be true, the film will be directed by none other than ‘Billa’ fame Vishnuvardhan.
At the moment, Gowtham Menon remains unavailable for the comments as he is busy preparing himself for the enxt bilingual movie with Rana and Samantha in lead roles.

When Ajith was asked that how all of a sudden how he got himself involved in the story and screenplay in Asal, he said,” It is not all of a sudden. When I see a good project, I get myself involved in other matters apart from acting and all those films have become a great success. For example I can say Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam, Vaali and Billa. It is the same thing in this film also. But this time I ahd come into the title. This happened because of the magnanimity of Producers Ram Kumar, Prabhu and director Saran.
My prayer was that this film should be a great success for Shivaji Productions because of their good hearts. The next generation of Shivaji’ sir Ram Kumar’s son Dushyianth and Prabhu’s son Vikram have worked so hard in this production. Now I am happy that this hard labor has paid.

After wielding megaphone for Ajith’s magnum opus ‘Billa’, director Vishnuvardhan is set to experiment with an exceptional period film set in backdrops of Chola Dynasty.
Says Vishnuvardhan: ‘Usually I spend more time in penning scripts and screenplays and I had completed more stories in one year. But now, I have picked the script of period film and working constantly for the final draft. I have actually planned to rope in Vikram to don the lead role and nothing is confirmed till the script works are over…’
When asked about directing Ajith’s film, he replied saying, “We have actually discussed few scripts and it may happen in future. But directing his 50th film is a baseless rumor and I will take up Telugu projects only after the completion of his period film.”...
