In the episode Bart says what trouble has ever been caused by men in brown shirts which is a reference to Hitler's brown shirts who helped him rise to power.
The scene when Bart and Lisa are fighting the Mailmen is a parody of the Battle of the Pelennor Fields from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. A red flying Nazgûl can also be seen.
