Jack Meets Dennis is another amusing episode of 30 Rock
tavm22 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Liz is walking with her boyfriend Dennis to work. After he leaves, Jenna asks, "How's the sex?" "Fast. And only on Saturday night," Liz replies. Otherwise, it's not a very good relationship since he sells out-of-date beepers and attempts to sell them to Liz's staff during office hours. Tracy Jordan is upset at a tabloid depicting him as normal with a picture of him walking out of his apartment with a dog. "That was me walking backwards and, yes, I steal dogs!" he says. To get some "street cred" back, he wears a fake tattoo on his face for a week. Meanwhile, Jenna gets some puffy lips after she gets interrogated about her age from Jack. She replies 29. And Josh has been impersonating Liz Taylor who later exacts some revenge on him! While all this is going on, Jack tries to mentor Liz about how wrong Dennis is for her but she'll have none of it. Jack then shows Liz a man she thinks he's setting her up with but Jack reveals he mentored him and now he's married to a Filipino woman with two kids. After Liz comes home with Dennis sleeping on a couch with a candle on his lap, she tries to break up with him but we later find he's now living with her...Funny episode, though a bit of a letdown from the previous "super-sized" one. Nice to see Liz and Jenna have more of a "best friends" vibe here. Especially loved the line about Jenna's puffy face from Liz:"It looks like someone boiled the water and threw it on your face!" Loved Lonny Ross' Josh and his encounter with Rachel Dratch's Liz Taylor (along with the spotlight that only highlighted Taylor's eyes). Dean Winters is amusing as the clueless Dennis and I loved Baldwin's line about one of his beepers:"I'm expecting a call from 1983." With Jenna, Tracy, and Josh looking their worst during the dress rehearsal, the producer hopes for something to interrupt their program. Then comes a blackout! After this show aired, NBC picked 30 Rock for a full season. Good for you, NBC! And good luck to Tina and the rest of the cast!

Pretty Funny Episode!
g-bodyl7 January 2014
The sixth episode in the first season of 30 Rock is a pretty good episode, despite not being as good as the previous three episodes. This episode is still rather entertaining and funny. There are some good subplots within the main story. But it seems that something is off with his episode. I don't think the writing is as good as it was previously or maybe because the addition of Dennis seems pretty useless.

In this episode, "Jack Meets Dennis," Liz goes out with her annoying ex-boyfriend, Dennis. Jack happens to meet Dennis at a restaurant and is not impressed by him. Meanwhile, Tracy is not happy that the media is portraying him as an ordinary person. Also, Jenna feels like she is getting too old for her job.

Overall, this is a solid episode in a good first season. While not the best, it still manages to be funny and sharp. My favorite scenes are one involving Tracy and a certain tattoo. I rate this episode 8/10.

Jack Meets Dennis (#1.6)
ComedyFan201016 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Liz starts dating her previous boyfriend Dennis who is a total looser. Jack wants to give her advice on how to live her life.

Meanwhile the whole cast of the show has looks problems. Jenna has a plastic surgery that has gone wrong, Tracy works on his image with a fake facial tattoo and Josh gets beaten up by Liz Taylor for his impersonation of her.

I like the character of Dennis, a nice addition. The fact that he is selling pagers because he thinks they will come back is hilarious. Glad Liz didn't break up with him yet, I see he has potential

Good idea with the facial tattoo and how they made us think it was real at first.

Dean Winters' comeback
MaxBorg891 October 2008
Jack Meeets Dennis is the first episode of 30 Rock to rely heavily on a famous guest star. In this case, former Oz inmate Dean Winters.

Winters plays Dennis Duffy, Liz's ex-boyfriend, a textbook loser who sells beepers for a living. Somehow he ends up back together with Liz, causing her to have some off-putting conversations with Jack. As for other TGS cast-members, Jenna panics after lying about her age, while Tracy fears a photo of him walking with a dog might make people think he's a normal guy.

The latter subplot is particularly hilarious thanks to Tracy Morgan's high-energy acting and the ridiculous premise: how many celebrities would actually want to appear crazy to the general public? In the end, though, it's the main story that endears the most, courtesy of an astounding triple act coming from Fey, Baldwin and Winters (plus Rachel Dratch as - hold on - Elizabeth Taylor). The male guest star is a riot to watch, especially since he's best known for playing dramatic roles on Oz or Law & Order: SVU. Alongside his cameo in Sex and the City back in 2000, his portrayal of the demented Dennis constitutes solid proof of his knack for good comedy, and many others will follow his footsteps on the show. Bravo
