Why was it called the Return of the King?
general-melchett26 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The thing that I find the worst about this episode is the title. We don't even see King Richard once, and by the end of the episode, I completely forgot that he was meant to be returning. This episode should be called "Medic For The Maid" because that's what it was. The whole damn thing felt like one long documentary battlefield wound treatment - though Djaq's treatment of Marian was appropriately difficult to watch at times and very comparable to the wound treatment in Black Hawk Down in terms of visual painfulness, it dragged, to say the least. Though I'm sure Marian isn't dead, it was good to have an episode that didn't end with everything returning to normal and happy days again. This episode was a worthy set-up to the grand finale of this rather average series, let down by the fact that a lot of issues brought up at the start were completely forgotten in favour of Marian's death. But then again - Robin Hood botches every sub-plot it starts and follows the same basic formula every episode, but we've got used to that and embraced that. A useless doctor (Pitts) makes for a rather sub-par new character - I wish they'd wipe out Marian's dad (the words "boring", "old" and "git" leap to mind in his case) and bring good King Richard into the plot. Though I'm sure the title was only so to pay some homage to (and perhaps start a lawsuit with) The Lord of the Rings, that was probably the worst thing about this episode - we need relevant titles! Let us hope next episode's title "Clue - No" has some relevance to the episode - it promises complex things... 7/10
