The super-8 footage in the beginning was originally shot from 1984-1985 as a 40-minute short film called Das Duell, and was later reused as the main framing device to Das Komabrutale Duell. The rest of the movie was shot from 1995-1998 on the S-VHS-C format.
Parts of this movies torture scene have been mistaken for the infamous Armin Meiwes dismemberment tape.
The torture scene in the beginning took weeks to film.
The film was shot on S-VHS-C using a Panasonic NV-S90, and was edited digitally on a computer. The footage was captured using a Miro DC 30 Plus capture adapter, and Adobe Premiere 4.2 was used for editing. The computer specs used were 200 MHz, 96MB of RAM and a 9GB UW hard drive.
Post production started in April 1998 and ended on August 18, 1999 at 3:50pm.
