These opening segments are getting more and more weird, and they don't have to be. We don't need to be shocked every time. This TV show is a good one, anyway. We don't need near-naked men in shopping carts in winter, followed by women in Playboy-bunny type gear, etc. But, I guess the idea to grab everyone's attention right off the bat with something bizarre.
That's actually the second opening scene, the first having some kids playing football in the snow with an errant pass going through someone's window. When one of the kids looks into the window, he sees a dead guy and thinks the football killed him. The kids all scatter. Just another day in the life of the CSI-New York workers!
This latter case (man found in apartment) is the most interesting case of the two and gets the two head honchos of the CSI team: Mac and Stella. It appears, after the ME report, that the man found might be part of a kidnapping gone bad and that there still two people out there somewhere: another kidnapper and the victim.
The other case involves the type of people CSI shows seem to like: arrogant, young, drunks and sex pervert types who could care less that someone was murdered. That was just too sordid yet it was interesting how they solved the case, the key being the shopping cart.
The "kidnapping" is a good mystery with a lot of twists and turns. Sadly, the last twist turned out be yet another sordid sex story.
