Funny and More Funny!
g-bodyl14 January 2014
The eighth episode in 30 Rock is really funny thanks to nonstop gags. Despite being mostly political or racial, these jokes work because they are hard to resist and really funny to see everyone's reactions here. Liz, Tracy, and Jack are the three main characters and they just get into rather awkward, but funny situations especially in this episode.

This episode, "The Break-Up," has Liz finally breaking up with Dennis and Jenna taking her out to celebrate. Liz begins to suspect that Jack's new girlfriend may be none other than Condoleeza Rice. Finally, Tracy and Toofer collide over an issue involving the Girlie Show.

Overall, this is a funny episodes thanks to lots of funny interplay between each character. I love how they get into these weird but funny situations. 30 Rock is turning out to be a funny sitcom. I rate this episode 9/10.

Tracy and Toofer
MaxBorg896 October 2008
The Break-Up is an outstanding 30 Rock episode for the way it perfectly uses all three of its main gag-machines: Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin, all of whom are granted a hilarious storyline.

Liz has to deal with the fact that Dennis still lives in her apartment despite their recent break-up, and reluctantly accepts to go looking for guys with Jenna to see if he will react the way she hopes. Tracy and Toofer, the only other African-American working on TGS, are forced to work together on a skit and end up in a huge fight over their different uses of the N-word. As for Jack, he is going through a rough phase with his new girlfriend, whom the episode's events "subtly" identify as Condoleeza Rice.

The script is a pit of golden jokes, especially when race and politics are involved: having a laugh at the expense of Jack's die-hard Republican mentality is always good, but the Tracy vs. Toofer plot line is close to being the best ever written for the show, with their misunderstandings showing how vastly different two people can be despite claiming some sort of spiritual connection. Dean Winters, making his last appearance for the season as Dennis, is also on top form (the "Dear Liz Lemon" bit alone should have gotten him an Emmz nomination), but even he can't beat the sheer, irresistible absurdity of seeing a scene from a fictional series called "Black Frasier". Anyone still wonder why NBC has a practically spotless record of great sitcoms?

The Break-Up is another hilarious episode of 30 Rock

Warning: Spoilers
Another funny episode of 30 Rock. Liz has had enough of Dennis after bringing a friend with a dog (which Liz is allergic to) in her apartment. Jack has been on the phone with his long-distance girlfriend Condi Rice. Writer Toofer and Tracy, being the only African-Americans on the show, are suing each other for saying the n-word which has different meanings to each other. Jenna tries to get Liz to forget about Dennis by bringing her to a karaoke bar but Liz always says the wrong thing. Jenna then suggests Liz make a list of Dennis' pros and cons. Liz's list becomes equal on both sides before Dennis comes to her apartment, charms her again, then Liz watches a Dateline expose that causes her to dump him for good...Lots of funny stuff on race and dating that consistently makes 30 Rock one of the most hilariously smartly written shows on television right now. Rachel Dratch has another funny cameo as a "sensitivity training" expert who helps patch things up with Toofer and Tracy. My favorite part was a scene from "Black Fraiser". So to Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels, I can only say this: Keep up the good work!

The Break-Up (#1.8)

Warning: Spoilers
Liz finally breaks up with Dennis, but then her coworkers cause her to doubt in he decision.

Tracy and Toofer get into a racial conflict over black stereotypes and the N-word.

Once again a brilliant episode. 'It is clever, original and has a lot of great lines and scenes. One would be the sensitivity training scene where they come up with insults one shouldn't say. Great insult ideas and very good performance by Rachel Dratch.

The way it ended with Dennis was pretty good. I loved the idea with him on Dateline, especially since it relates to what he said to Jack about 20 y/o women often being 16. One doesn't dislike the character but Liz's reaction is understandable. Hope we get to see more from him.

And I loved the interaction between Tracy and Toofer. Toofer being so "white" and against stereotypes, while Tracy being very much a representation of many stereotypes and proud of his roots.

Ah, if only Don Imus had watched this episode before... y'know

And I also wish Aaron Sorkin had seen this episode, too, before the painfully protracted episodes he tried to do with a black writer and a black performer on "Studio 60," which were so frustratingly wrong-headed and wrong-spirited and just plain WRONG, it's the moment I gave up on that show. But "30 Rock!" Wow, THIS is what it's really all about. THIS episode just so totally got it right. Toofer was right. AND Tracy was right. I LOVED that! What show actually shows both sides?? I was in tears laughing. And the running gags were priceless, both the bit with the "N" word and the vacuum cleaner, and Jack dating Condie! SO funny! And the "Black Frasier" scene mentioned above? I'm still dying--I'm seriously, seriously still dying laughing about that!!
