Japanese vs Korean version
naazanin19 March 2016
I saw the Korean version first and the Japanese version (this one) later. I like both of them in different ways.

Why the Japanese one is better? 1. Stronger plot: The Japanese scenario makes a lot of sense in comparison with the Korean one. From the Japanese one I got the right idea about the name of the series (boys over flowers) and also some vague parts from Korean one became clear to me such as the background of the F4 member with some Mafia/gangster affiliations; the reason behind the Domyioji Group problems after breaking the engagement with the rich heiress, and Tsukawa's feelings and understanding leading to dumping Makino while he went to NY. In sum, the Japanese plot makes more sense. 2. Better act of the first role actress: In Japanese one, the main actress make much more sense in her acts. I better understand her feelings on his dual feelings toward the first actor, her love, her breakup and her tries to be strong. While in Korean one, some things confused me because of the act of the first role actress. In Korean version, I was not clear enough about her love/hate relationship, its transformation and the feeling behind her breakup and makeups.

What I like about Korean one: 1. Less violence: The Japanese one involved a lot of physical violence which I feel is not good enough for teenagers because they usually make the actors in this kind of dramas as their role models and imitate them in many ways. In Korean version, the first actor's anger and frustration are shown through his talk, body language and sports which is more acceptable to me. 2. The details about the F4 spoiled lifestyle is shown much better in Korean one. Remember the scenes of private jet, the island owned by the Shinua Holding, the main actor's proposal for a date in Japan to have Japanese food and etc. By the way, the Japanese team did their best to take care of these scenes in the movie, the final of Boys over Flowers. 3. Somehow, Gu Jun Pyo (the first actor in Korean version) seems more human to me. He is sensitive, alone, ruined but affectionate and gradually becomes more caring at the end.

Simply, see them both and make your own judgment if you like teenager love style movies!

Hana Yori Dango season 2
princess_zenab22 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Hana Yori Dango returns with a second series after finishing so quickly with 9 episodes. You see the return of the much loved characters of Jun Matsumoto and Oguri Shun.

The story continues after Doumouji leaves for New York and the series contains more drama love and confusion. Although only 3 episodes have been released so far the series looks promising with good and exciting story lines and a great soundtrack to go with it.

I am enjoying it a lot so far after waiting so long for it to return. It missed a lot from the original manga and although the plot in season 2 does not relate to the manga it has some great story lines.

Only 3 episodes have been released so far but im already into it waiting for the arrival of the next one! **

I have watched the fourth episode and let me tell you it gets better and better! Hana Yori Dango is living up to it expectations. I wont include any spoilers because i don't want to ruin any thing. But the love 'square' between doumoji makino rui and shigeru is one to definitely watch! Every episode is intense and at the end of each episode shows a little clip of what to expect next and it looks so exciting!!

Plus may i add all the characters are looking very, very well and especially OGURI SHUN!

Boys Over Flowers Season 2 Japanese Version...
fprefect-685-28108422 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Hana Yori Dango Returns (2007, Boys Over Flowers Season 2, Japanese Version) centers around a rich boy, Domyouji, who falls for poor girl, Makino, with plenty of obstacles in their path to love. Domyouji is the leader of the F4 (Flower Four), 4 close friends that are sons of Japan's wealthiest. Hana Yori Dango Returns begins with the yearlong separation of Domyouji and Makino, when Domyouji moves to New York to study business because he lost the bet with his mother at the end of Hana Yori Dango season 1.

I watched the Korean version of Boys Over Flowers (2009, made after Hana Yori Dango Returns) before I watched the Japanese version. Comparisons between the two versions are inevitable.

What I liked about the Hana Yori Dango Returns (season 2) a) F4 synergy and friendship was excellent. The F4 Japanese actors are better than the F4 Korean actors with the exception of the lead male actor where I preferred Lee Min-ho. No real knocks against Japanese male lead Jun Matsumoto, who was compelling and had excellent chemistry with the female lead. Each F4 character had a storyline and mattered. b) female lead Mao Inoue as Makino Tsukushi is spunky and more open about her feelings than the Korean version of this character. I liked the Domyouji and Makino pairing. They spend more time apart than together but the moments they are together work. c) I preferred how Domyouji character was strong though trapped into an engagement he was willing to risk everything to end it. In the Korean version the male lead was willing to marry for the company leaving behind his love, which weakened the character. d) episode 5 where Domyouji and F4 helps Makino's little bro declare his love for the girl that loaned him an eraser was adorable and sweet.

What I did not like a) Makino leaving Domyouji to return to her family when the company was tanking made no sense. Domyouji's evil mother didn't guarantee that anything would improve if she left, but off she went. b) The final episode where Makino misses her graduation and prom but gets an arena of folks watching Domyouji propose to her was silly. I wanted to see her in that red dress too! c) This season drags a bit, the two females, Shigeru during Domyouji's engagement and Umi during Domyouji's amnesia, that vie and manipulate to oust Makino got irritating. Makino flip flops on declaring herself for Domyouji more than I liked.

While Hana Yori Dango Returns was better made and acted than the Korean version, the Korean version has intangibles which makes me prefer it. I plan to check out first version, the Taiwan Meteor Garden (2001) Meteor Rain (2001) and Meteor Garden II (2002).

The perfect mix of everything a drama needs!! BEAUTFUL!
loveizlikeoxygen17 February 2007
My favorite drama..ever. and I've watched a lot. (korean/chinese/taiwanese/Japanese) I'm a BIG BIG BIG fan of dramas so i guess its safe to say i have "expirience" whatever that is. Hana Yori Dango is just such a bittersweet, heartwarming drama. It makes you smile, cry, and be angry all in a period of 40 min. its absolutely non-stop fun!

Every preview makes you want to grab the computer, shake its screen, and scream until the next episode comes out. (with subtitles for me because I'm actually a white girl)

It just hold that something special. Possibly the storyline, I mean there ARE those typical scenes and plots but in general it holds something new each episode. My biggest fear for season 2 was that it would follow in Meteor Garden's (another *taiwanese* remake of the manga) sequel.

Well...it didn't! the storyline is gripping and on the edge of your seat close to falling action and excitement. Power, friends, family, money, love, heartbreak, hidden past, mysteries, dilemmas, worries are all bundled up into this second season.

The love between Rui, Makino, and Tsukasa intensifies and grows and tugs at your hear-strings. There are many smaller characters which this time are given bigger roles. Everyone acts wonderfully and sticks to their character so well.

The use of humor is JUST right, without that "very often" exaggerated humor other dramas tend to use. Everything is also very smart in the sense that its believable and the script is just perfect

As you can see i can rant on and on. Currently I'm up to episode 7 of the total 11 (tear tear coming to an end)

I wish that i could COMPLETELY describe this show, but ill leave it to everyone to watch. TRUST me you wont regret it. The characters are so sweet (guys=hot as wheel for the ladies), the music is AWESOM (2 main songs "Love So Sweet"--Arashi and "Flavor of Life"-- Utada Hikaru), and the story is perfectly put together and a great sequel

DO NOT think that just because its the "sequel/2nd season" its automatically bad. it JUST MIGHT surprise you! :]

so what are you waiting for? check it out! especially the 1s1 episode (which is almost the length of a move) and is absolutely priceless as it was shot in NYC itself!!!

If you loved the first season, you'll adore this one!
pseudolight6 March 2007
This sequel to the first season of Hana Yori Dango lives up to its expectations and even exceeds them! If you've seen the first season and loved it, this second one will just blow you away. Characters are adorable, music is fantastic, and the plot thickens delightfully!

As a follow-up to the first season, it does extremely well, picking up where the first one left off. If the opening of the first episode is confusing, the episode was especially extended to bring the viewer up to speed and explain the things that have happened in the time between the two seasons. So, no need to worry about being lost! You're caught up and drawn into the action again in no more! Like in the first season, you'll be on the edge of your seat, dying to see the next episode.

Of course, HYD2 brings back the beloved characters of Makino Tsukushi, Tsukasa Domyouji, Hanazawa Rui, and the rest of the amazing cast- and even more lovable characters are added to the mix, noting the well-played Shigeru. Each role is played flawlessly by the actors, with the viewer drawn in to what's happening before he/she knows it! There is no one in this series that you can dislike because they are all such likable characters. And better yet, characters with small roles in the first season have gotten bigger ones this time, with them growing and making the story that much more interesting.

And as always, the soundtrack for the season fits it perfectly and will be stuck in your head before you know it. Of course, the opening is colorful, joyful, and a great way to start an episode. The two main songs for this season are: "Love So Sweet" by Arashi (opening) and "Flavor of Life" by Utada Hikaru

You will love this season perhaps even more than you did the last one. You won't regret watching Hana Yori Dango 2 Returns! I guarantee it!

Melt my heart, please.
blackrose2122 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
So previous comments have already gone through the basics of the drama, but I'd just like to continue stressing how incredibly good it is. I cannot express my love for it.

I watched the first season when it was on TV in Taiwan last summer, and fell in love with it. Not to mention it was so much better than Meteor Garden (the Taiwanese remake of the manga). HYD has a lot less episodes than Meteor Garden, but has the same amount of content and result within around 11 episodes. Thus in proportion, HYD definitely has more excitement. When I heard a second season was out (I wasn't even aware they were making a sequel), I knew I HAD to watch it. I got the DVD set as soon as I could and watched it in an entire weekend.

Maybe it's because I watched the second season more recently, but unlike a lot of sequels, HYD 2 does not lose to its precedent. In fact, I think it may be even better, but that's arguable.

The plot line is pretty simple - the journey a young couple takes through the power of love. The love story between Makino and Domyoji (Tsukasa) is just so bittersweet. They overcome so many obstacles and separations for their love to prevail. Yeah, I sound like a poem, but it's just that heartwarming. HYD 2 picks up where the first season left off, and introduces a new issue in the love between Makino and Tsukasa. The ending, although somewhat predictable, was just so sweet. The entire drama in all was just awesome. Not to mention Rui is just hot. The theme songs, Love So Sweet by Arashi and Flavor of Life by Utada Hikaru are great, and (based upon English translations) the lyrics are so relevant to the drama.

If you loved the first season, or if you're just a fan of Japanese/Korean dramas, this is definitely worth watching.

Yet, another awesome series!!
garnet_light23 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched the first 2 episodes from Hana Yori Dango 2 Returns and I gotta admit I can't wait to watch the next episode. It's awesome, but got me confused a little. It starts as Makino feeling depressed because Domyouji stopped calling her all of a sudden and after a while because of some events she gets a red notice which is always sent by Domyouji. Now that F4 have graduated and she's all alone in the school, who's gonna save her? A new guy makes an entry here and she get so mad and decide to go to New York to see Domyouji. Do I need to say more? I won't ruin it for all of you by saying more, but I truly advice you to watch it. I loved it a lot and I can't wait to watch more of it. But I assure you, you won't have a single boring moment with it like the previous Hana Yori Dango ^_^

UPDATE: So, I just finished watching episode 10 and it's really amazing. People may think that season 2 is not as season 1, but I assure you that it's awesome even more than season 1. The characters pull you right into the story and the series till you're addicted to it. Their emotions becomes yours and you just worry for them and keep watching to see what's going to happen to them. I truly find the acting amazing! It's simply great and you won't be able to stop watching it at all. This season is going to let you forget all about season 1 because it's full of surprises. I'm sure you'll like it to till the end and you won't have a single moment when you feel unsatisfied. The drama takes you in a whole new world where you learn new things about love in different shapes. Also, the song which amaze me and gets me emotional is Flavour Of Life for Utada Hikaru which really rocks!!

This song fits completely to the situations in the drama and I find it the most song that fits the show. An advice for you all, don't miss this drama!
