Going into this episode, I was already feeling pretty lukewarm about Naruto as a series. I had issues with pacing, characters being flat, and an overall feeling of mediocrity in terms of the writing. This episode has given me faith in the series. Seeing the backstory of Rock Lee unfold gave me a newfound respect for the writing abilities of the author; I was almost brought to tears when watching the tragic events of Rock Lee's past. I'm excited to continue this series after watching this episode.
