- Detective Dani Beck: [after Eden sets Dani's apartment on fire] Why'd you do it?
- Eden: So you'd never leave me.
- Detective Dani Beck: You could have killed us both.
- Eden: Then we'd be together.
- Detective Dani Beck: I'm sorry.
- [starts to leave]
- Eden: Where are you going, Dani?
- [Dani leaves the hospital room]
- Detective Elliot Stabler: [while arriving at a scene where a van is being lifted out of the water] John, what do we got?
- Detective John Munch: The van tried to take a shortcut to Brooklyn. The river got in the way.
- Eden: [to Dani] What do you want me to do?
- Detective Dani Beck: Tell the truth about Rita and Bud in court.
- Eden: You mean the bad things?
- Detective Dani Beck: What bad things?
- Eden: They put a hose in my mouth and turned it on 'til water came out of my nose, and they took away Charlie's wheelchair for two days, so he had to crawl, and they made Joe eat his own barf.
- Detective Dani Beck: Did you see them hurt your sister?
- Eden: I didn't see Rose because she was in the cage.
- Detective Dani Beck: If you didn't see your sister, how did you know about the cage?
- Eden: Rita showed me. She said I could be punished with the cage or the hose.
- Detective Dani Beck: What did you do wrong?
- [Eden doesn't answer her]
- Detective Dani Beck: Eden? If you're in court, you have to tell the truth about everything. What did you do wrong?
- Eden: I didn't finish my food.
- Detective Dani Beck: I can't do this.
- Detective Elliot Stabler: Why?
- Detective Dani Beck: I fix things. It's who I am, and I can't fix the little girl.
- Detective Elliot Stabler: That's not what we do.
- Detective Dani Beck: But you want to and I thought I could. How do you keep doing this job?
- Detective Elliot Stabler: Because I have to.
- Detective Dani Beck: Why? We don't make a difference.
- Detective Elliot Stabler: Dani, you can do this.
- Detective Dani Beck: Are you asking me to stay?
- Detective Elliot Stabler: Dani, I can't. You've got to be here for yourself, not for me.
- Detective Dani Beck: [in a whisper] Yeah. Bye, Elliot.
- [walks away upset as Stabler watches her]
- A.D.A. Casey Novak: [when the defense attorney tries to disprove Novak's theories by comparing opinions] What is this your Honor, Ebert & Roeper?
- Detective Elliot Stabler: Handcuffed to the seats? How'd they get out?
- Uniform cop: Driver must have freed them. Looks like there were two adults.
- [as he picks up a shoe]
- Uniform cop: A woman with one shoe and a man with no hair.
- [as he picks up a wig]
- Bud Gabler: We adopt handicapped children that no one else'll touch. That costs money.
- Detective Dani Beck: You're getting rich, but that's not enough for you. You have to treat them like dirt?
- A.D.A. Casey Novak: [about the tape being ruled inadmissable in court] There's no proof that it's a full and accurate account of what happened. The defense can say that in the missing sections, a spaceship landed and aliens squashed the girl with a giant pumpkin.
- Dr. Arlen Rieff: Kids like Rose are born to addicted or absent parents. As a baby, Rose would have followed her instincts, would have kept smiling, kept reaching out. Not for seconds, for months, for years. She would have kept trying until her natural affections were burnt out.
- Donna Emmett: And after that?
- Dr. Arlen Rieff: Her only instinct is survival. Most psychiatrists, they see these children as untreatable.
- Donna Emmett: In your opinion, were my clients wrong to try and treat Rose?
- Dr. Arlen Rieff: Well, it's hard to speak of right and wrong when they're facing an impossible choice: to surrender Rose to an institution where she'll live her life in a state of overmedicated catatonia or to try and bring her back to life.
- Eden: [to Dani] Will Bud and Rita be in court?
- Detective Dani Beck: They won't be able to hurt you.
- Eden: Yes, they will.
- Detective Dani Beck: Not if they're in prison.
- Eden: They're not in prison now. They're here. I see them when they come to visit the other kids. They give me mean looks like they want to kill me too.
- Detective Dani Beck: We won't let them. We'll move you to another home.
- Eden: They'll still find me.
- Detective Dani Beck: I'll protect you.
- Eden: I'll do it if I can live with you.
- Detective Dani Beck: I told you that's not possible.
- Eden: But why?
- Detective Dani Beck: I have to work.
- Eden: Not while I'm in court. Please let me stay with you?
- Detective John Munch: Cinderella's definitely a woman and Frank needs to join the hair club for men.
- Eden: [to Dani] Can I live with you?
- Detective Dani Beck: I don't think that's possible.
- Eden: Why not? Don't you like me?
- Detective Dani Beck: Of course I like you.
- Eden: Do you have too many children already?
- Detective Dani Beck: I don't have any.
- Eden: That's sad.
- Detective Dani Beck: [about Eden and Marc] Albany's social services had no records of these kids. They just dropped out of the system.
- Lauren White: ACS in Florida, New Jersey, anywhere could have placed Eden in a lousy foster agency with poor follow-up, irregular home visits...
- Detective Dani Beck: And she disappears off the radar.
- Lauren White: Families move quickly. Bureaucracies don't.
