Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • At his triplet's birthday party, Shrek is under pressure too many times, and has an emotional outburst doing his famous "Shrek" roar.
  • After Shrek is done scaring the villagers, he discovers wanted posters for Fiona in the forest. He quickly goes from being happy to being worried as he senses that something is wrong. This scene is very ominous and is followed by Shrek discovering his swamp burned down and his home abandoned/deserted.
  • Rumplestiltskin waves around a glass of water subtly threatening to melt witches with it if they don't tell him a good plan to stop Shrek from getting a curse-breaking true love's kiss. When one witch suggests getting a bounty hunter, Rumpel gets excited and accidentally melts her with water, then shrugs it off.
  • In the beginning of the movie, Shrek gets stressed by things/people taunting him and roars load and smashes a cake in one scene out of frustration/anger.
  • Four ogres are seen being treated as slaves in one scene.
  • For the first time in the entire series, Shrek cries.
  • The complete disappearance of Fiona's parents and the partial disappearance of Shrek may upset and confuse younger viewers.
  • The battle scene at the end is quite intense.

Violence & Gore

  • In the climactic scene, Shrek dies in an alternate reality, but then we go to the original universe where he is still alive and well. This scene is extremely sad and powerful.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Shrek dies at the end after his contract runs out. He dies in Fiona's arms and discusses the life he previously had before disintegrating. Very emotional. However, he comes back to life a minute later.
  • Shrek glows gold when he realizes his entire life is gone.
  • This film is very dark for children. Also is the second darkest film of the franchise after Puss In Boots The Last Wish.
  • Shrek getting angry started loud screaming "Roar!" and becomes ruined party birthday and may upsetting.
