There's nothing here to rival the jaw-dropping shock of Lisa Faulkner's deep fat fryer demise in the series' second episode back in 2002, but The Greater Good stands as a solid spy thriller that successfully harnesses the tone and feel of the TV show. Kit Harington heads up a big-screen continuation of BBC's Spooks. Here's Ryan's review of the tepid thriller, Spooks: The Greater Good...
Imagine being an agent for the British Intelligence. You get to wave guns around, slide envelopes under doors, and say cool-sounding things like, “I have to go dark or I won’t get through,” or, “Qasim’s escape was orchestrated by someone at the very top,” or, “It isn’t the pub lunch that’s making you queasy”.
Okay, so that last one doesn’t sound quite so cool, but still: being a secret agent. It must be exciting, even if you wouldn’t necessarily know it from looking at the gloomy expressions of the ones in Spooks: The Greater Good. Mind you, I’d probably look a bit down-in-the-mouth if a dangerous terrorist had somehow slipped out of my custody while being ferried through London. This is the...

Known by many as the British 24, Spooks had an impressive ten year run on British television (airing as Mi-5 in the U.S.), with a mixture of glossy production values and fast paced action and intrigue striking a chord with viewers, leading to the series' huge fan base. The adventures of veteran spy Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) and Mi-5's counter terrorism division Section D came to an end in 2011, but Spooks is back in a big way with Spooks: The Greater Good opening in cinemas this Summer. With Game of Thrones Kit Harrington taking the lead, The Greater Good continues where the show left off, with Harry Pearce forced to resign as the head of Section D in question after charismatic terrorist leader Adem Qasim (Elyes Gabel) escapes custody, putting Herry's leadership and loyalties into question. With Mi-5 on it's knees and an attack on London looming, Pearce brings...

Elizabeth Banks will continue to bring her unique (see: slapsticky and funny as hell) brand of comedy to the small screen, and this time, it’s for her own show. Titled The Greater Good, ABC have picked up the series and are developing it into a single-camera comedy that the actress-director will executive produce and direct.
Banks will oversee production via her Brownstone Prods banner, along with 20th Century Fox TV, with scripting duties going to Arrested Development‘s Caroline Williams. It’s not yet known if Banks will also take a stint in front of the camera, but as she’s currently finishing up on her directorial debut Pitch Perfect 2, she might be rather enjoying time out of the spotlight. However, judging by the very brief logline we’ve got on the series and the fact that Williams is at the keys, I’d say she should definitely...

If you're a Doctor Who fan lucky enough to see 50th anniversary episode The Day Of The Doctor in a cinema last November, you probably saw it the way it was meant to be seen. With a giant “Woo” moment coming approximately every ten minutes, it has the air of a story that is too big for your living room. It may still have been a feature-length episode, but it's one that was meant to be watched surrounded by other fans.
That one worked out pretty well for BBC Worldwide - the special screenings took £6m globally in its opening weekend. That's not bad considering it only showed on Saturday evening and Sunday morning in most cinemas. Having proven a viable strategy, the BBC are doing the same...

When you think of Madonna, there are all kinds of phrases that immediately leap to mind, word pairings like "Material Girl," "boy toy" or "pointy bra." Now you can add "jury duty" to that list. Sort of. The 55-year-old pop star did report to a Manhattan courthouse on Monday morning to perform everyone's least favorite civic duty - but she was treated like, well, Madonna. According to the Associated Press, she was immediately taken into the clerk's office instead of having to wait in the jury assembly room with everyone else who'd received a summons in the mail. There's a new Grimm in town, and Adalind might be up to her old tricks again. Here's Caroline's review of this week's Grimm...
This review contains spoilers.
3.19 Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen
Grimm does a satisfactory job of balancing two main plots this week – the obvious fallout from the last episode’s snatching baby Diana from Adalind, and the introduction of a new (and likely recurring) character.
First things first: Adalind is pissed. Well, more than pissed. She’s also desperate, heartbroken and betrayed. Her initial vulnerability – demonstrated by her increasingly desperate pleas to the gang find her child – is a complete contrast to the scheming and witchy Adalind we know and love. Despite her appeals for help, her supposed allies against the Royals all continue to lie to her "for the greater good". ("The greater good!")
Inevitably Adalind blames Renard for...

A 70s themed episode of Castle? Laura says it's not as bad as it could've been, but still pretty hit and miss...
This review contains spoilers.
6.20 That '70s Show
I have to admit I have spent the past few weeks cringing at the very idea of this week’s episode. Television shows that do period or other “themed” episodes tend to fall into one of two categories: either they are truly inspired or complete rubbish. The former tends to be a small group and the latter extremely large.
It all depends on the writers.
I think I’ve made my case in past reviews that Castle’s one ongoing problem is that the writers tend to be inconsistent at best. So based on this, I was certain that this week’s episode, That '70s Show, was going to join that much larger and more disappointing group.

6.19 The Greater Good
One of the things that has always sort of bothered me about Castle is the way it represents New York City, especially given the show’s setup. In a moment where income inequality is such a hot-button issue, you would think that the city in which it is worst, the place where the Occupy movement began, would be portrayed in a more realistic way in this respect. You would especially think that this would be true of a show where the main characters are a millionaire reformed playboy and a hardened homicide detective who has seen it all—they live in worlds largely on either side of the economic gulf.

Johnson Jerald: I can tell you that it is an exciting episode. I can tell you that you will enjoy the cast, the guest stars, and you're definitely going to support and love Salli Richardson, who is playing my sister. She's a wonderful choice.
Is this an episode in which Gates' personal life is exposed, or will she mostly just be working the case?

PBS begins airing season three starting January 19th, so fans have a choice to make: watch episodes online shortly after they air in the UK, or wait to watch them on TV a few weeks later? Either way, don’t miss out on the influx of new stills just released or on the mini-episode airing on Christmas! And start placing bets on how long John’s mustache will last, or perhaps even how he realizes that it’s just not a good look for him.

"Game of Thrones" hunk Kit Harington and "Zero Dark Thirty" scene stealer Jennifer Ehle have joined the cast of "Spooks: The Greater Good," the film adaptation of cult British spy drama "Spooks" (aka. "Mi-5").
When a terrorist escapes from MI5 custody during a routine handover, counterterrorism director Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) is saddled with the blame.
Soon after, when Pearce disappears off a bridge into the Thames river, an ex-MI5 operative and Pearce's former protégé Will Crombie (Harington) is called in to help uncover what happened.
With a devastating attack on London imminent, Will finds himself on the trail of a conspiracy that stretches from Vietnam to the Mediterranean.
Ehle will play the role of Dame Geraldine Maltby who is a part of MI5, though it's not specified in what capacity. Both characters are new to the franchise.
Bharat Nalluri will helm from a script by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent.

The BAFTA-winning, British action spy drama "Spooks" (aka. "Mi-5") is coming to the big screen with the new film "Spooks: The Greater Good".
Bharat Nalluri will helm the feature which will shoot in the first quarter of 2014. Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent have penned the script, while Jane Featherstone and Stephen Garrett are set to produce - much of the same team behind the final two seasons.
Running for 86 episodes from 2002-2011, the original series followed the officers of the British Security Service, MI5, who race to stop threats to national security be they religious extremists, suicide bombers, arms dealers, foreign governments and corruption within their own ranks.
The show's handling of terrorism has sometimes come under fire, mostly for its either relatively plausible or potentially incendiary takes on certain topical scenarios (a "thinking man's '24'" is the description sometimes used). A torture scene involving a woman's face...

Is Spooks about to undertake a mission which its Us equivalent 24 never quite managed to complete?
Reports suggest that a feature film based on the BBC spy drama - subtitled The Greater Good - is to enter production in early 2014.
If the MI5 crew do make their way to the multiplexes, here's five things we want to see in the Spooks movie…
Harry Pearce at the centre of the action
Peter Firth's surly MI5 chief was always the beating heart of Spooks and any movie spinoff needs to include a sizeable role for Harry.
Firth has been confirmed as reprising his role for the film, but it sounds like the fan favourite might be taking a backseat to his as-yet-uncast protégé Will Crombie - say it ain't so.
Oh, and don't even think about killing Harry - the Spooks fans will never forgive you.

Andrew asks why UK genre TV is lagging behind the times in terms of putting female characters centre stage...
When it was announced that Matt Smith was leaving Doctor Who, the issue of the Doctor's gender and, to a lesser extent, skin colour were debated. We now have Peter Capaldi to look forward to in the role, and although the presence of another white male has caused some annoyance, the sheer brilliance of Capaldi's casting has been a cause for excitement.
So, the Doctor won't be female for now, but what of other shows? There aren't, and arguably never have been, any comparable lead roles for women on British genre shows, and it's not really been tried.
Yes, there's a companion in Doctor Who and they're great parts, but if you look at attempts to replicate Who's success in a family viewing slot, not...

5.5 No Care, All Responsibility
We’ve reached the penultimate adventure for Tom, Hal and Alex, and things are not exactly amicable for our trio. Hal’s descent into full bloodlust last week causes him to completely lose his moral compass, and in turn Alex and Tom aren’t too happy with the behaviour of their vampy housemate. If this were the final episode, then fans would be right in fearing for the resolution they so desperately crave but, by getting the really dark stuff out of the way here, hopefully some optimism can be clawed back for Being Human’s last hour next week.
We start with a flashback to Rook fifteen years ago, as he saves a young girl from a vampire nest.

After Hal and Tom dealt with the mirror images of their dark sides in last week’s episode, The Greater Good shows them, and us, how quickly their normal lives could be snatched away from them should their own weaknesses take over.
The two new guests at Honolulu Heights come courtesy of Rook, as he tasks Tom with babysitting a previously contained werewolf while he goes to negotiate funding with the Chinese government.

Ever been in one of those situations where you're down the pub and one of your party turns to you and says, 'Mate, have you seen the new episode of bla bla?' And then you try and bluff it for a bit, before inevitably you're exposed as a filthy liar, and you're cast out of your friendship circle, all because you had no idea that bla bla was even back on the box?
It's a humiliating, nightmarish experience, and it's our job to make sure it doesn't happen to you in the future by bringing you airdates and info for some of the best shows out there in our Tube Talk Q&A, which this week includes Elementary and the soon-to-be-finshed Being Human...
When is Elementary back on Sky Living please?
Since you asked so nicely, we can confirm that Jonny Lee Miller's bonkers, frenetic take on Sherlock Holmes...

Prepare yourself for an epic Being Human this week - 'The Greater Good' is humorous, heartfelt and shocking in equal measure! Both of our boys find themselves playing babysitter this week, as Tom (Michael Socha) must mentor a fellow werewolf - gentle giant Bobby (Ricky Grover) - while Hal (Damien Molony) takes troubled Crumb (Colin Hoult) back under his wing...
Can hapless Bobby be reintegrated back into society? Is there hope for Crumb? And after his dark side bubbled back up to the surface last week, how much longer can Hal resist the murderous urges that lurk within?
Being Human continues on BBC Three this Sunday (February 24) at 10pm - check out our ten teasers for 'The Greater Good' below. Mild spoilers!
