Rehab
sferg6214 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I felt that the Tritter storyline had become trite and was glad to see it finally wrapped up.

House going through rehab and all of the steps as only House can was a great way to end the scenario, much better than I had hoped for considering Tritter's bullying and obsessive personality. I know, that also describes House, but at least the doctor has a sense of humor and some depth to his character.

The only way I'd like to see Tritter return is as a patient with some bizarre disease caused by chewing nicotine gum like it is Double Bubble. Maybe then, he would be interesting.

Its David Morse

Warning: Spoilers
I know no one likes Tritter, I would hate him if he wasn't so good at his job. I was elated that it did end the way it did but that doesn't make Morses character less important. His character provided conflict the same way Chi Mcbride did as Volger, and David Morse did an excellent job as always. Without some kind of conflict other than medical mysteries the show would probably flop, otherwise we would all spend our time watching autopsies(which actually are pretty interesting.) So please save the bad Tritter reviews for your own personal hatred. I hated him too for attacking House, but it kept me watching.

Uneven
litefantastic17 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
So it's judgment day for House, and at the same time he has to save a fire fighter who is sick with the classic anonymous illness. I found this episode to be quite good in places, but seriously thin in others.

House in rehab is classic House. As always, he does his share of put downs (choosing the ghost of Andre the Giant as the Higher Power in his 12 step program was a particularly nice touch) and maintains his attitude throughout. At the same time, he manages the additional feat of almost impressing Tritter. This part of the episode was solid.

The actual medical case here was undercooked. The climax of the episode is when the fire fighter who is the patient du jour has his memory electrically erased so he'll stop having heart attacks when he sees a certain girl. Memory erasure is a very powerful subject that can be used as a beautiful construct in fiction - as it is in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." Here, however, it is a spur-of-the-moment thing, and neither the process nor its effects on this man's life are examined in depth.

The show's time slot simply wasn't big enough for two interwoven plot lines of their magnitude. The House-on-trial plot line survived, and, of the two, it was certainly the more important. But it's still unfortunate that the classic medical mystery - the very thing this show was built around - dried up and blew away in this particular episode.

Medical information is misleading on this episode
pelchat1-43-4777372 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was great if one focuses on the plot concerning House. However, as a Ph.D. neuroscientist, I have to object strenuously to the use of ETC (Electroconvulsive shock therapy) in the program to erase a patient's entire autobiographical memory. This simply does not happen. With modern ETC, there can be some memory loss for a day or so before the procedure. Even in the bad old days, people did not lose all knowledge of who they were or how to do their jobs. In fact, Etc can be a life saving procedure for patients with treatment resistant suicidal depression. Misinformation does a disservice to the entire mental health community. I love the House series, but this episode makes me doubt the reliability of the medical information. I realize that the program is fiction and not medical school but to perpetuate errors is wrong.

Amazing actor, annoying character
renato_muller3 June 2008
David Morse is an amazing actor, and it makes even easier to hate Tritter. The man is much more unethical than House and has started a witch hunt that has by far gone beyond the original goal to make House regret what he did to Tritter in the clinic. And when it seemed the situation will lead to an end, Tritter shows clearly how much a son of a b... he is...

I'm still watching the show and don't know how it is going to end, but I agree this kind of extra-patient conflict is very interesting to keep the show from being boring. A long time in season 2 this element was absent and House M.D. lacked punch.

Half Interesting, Half Stupid
rwk22 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"Rehab" and "Uneven" are dead on.

1. The trial was never going any other way. The show is named "House," obviously he's the main character and can't be imprisoned.

2. That being said though, it was totally out of character for a judge to dismiss a case simply because one piece of evidence wasn't admissible. Although the entire viewing audience agreed the whole thing was ludicrous, that's the legal system.

3. Was it just me or was erasing a guy's memory the DUMBEST thing to do? Why not simply not go around that girl? Transfer to another fire department. Work a different shift. Just hang out with your brother and not his wife. Sucks but it's better than losing your calling in life and only source of income. And yet three doctors went ahead with that sci-fi solution without even verifying the truth of the marriage.

4. Speaking of which, why wasn't that MAJOR discrepancy discussed? Isn't that a symptom or something? He's seeing blue, has menopause, is in love with a girl at work, AND THINKS SHE'S MARRYING HIS BROTHER. Even without his memory, isn't he still sick?

This episode just fell flat. The actors were all great but the writing was super weak.

Ludicrous and awful
nursielcs22 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the culmination of the story arch with the most badly acted, annoying and poorly written character in the series so far. I'm late to discovering House! Tritter is clearly a dodgy cop but we get no insight as to why or what caused him to get this way. There are other and far more/better ways to seek revenge on House who yeah is rude but right. I live in the Uk and even I know that in the state cops can't just freeze bank accounts and stop a dr writing prescriptions not without the say so of a judge or at least his superiors. Tritter acts alone and unregulated by anyone or anything and even I know that as dodgy cops go this is poor writing. Cuddy is House's moral compass but commits perjury completely out of character. The whole story line is seriously flawed and out of keeping with the series up until this point (and a few episodes on from what I can see) I'm hoping it's just an awful blip!

Ridiculous
Nunyrbusiness20 April 2014
Really? A bleak jail cell? Seriously, if this is supposed to be representative of a rehab center that a successful doctor would go to then I can only imagine what us "PO folks" would have to endure. It is a ridiculously stupid, stupid episode. Not even comedic. Unfortunately it seems that some TV series just run to many years. It starts out great. Fun to watch. Clever. And after five years or so it just totally goes downhill with stupid and ridiculous, horrible writing, stupid plots, dumb characters etc. There's only been a few TV series that actually successfully went from year one through year 8, 9 or 10 and was good all the way through. House is unfortunately not one of them. And scrubs is another example. Absolutely could not get through the last 2 years....it was horrible. Such a cute, clever, fun show just plummeted down the hill. And House tumbled after.
