This episode appears to be based on two separate incidents of drunk driving stops:
- The 2006 drink-driving charge of the actor Mel Gibson.
- The 1973 reckless driving charge against U.S. Representative Patrick Joseph Kennedy II (D-Rhode Island).
"In vino veritas" is Latin for "in wine, truth", and loosely means that one under the influence of alcohol is more likely to speak their hidden feelings and desires.
