Gothic Thriller Emphasizing the Power of Oppression
l_rawjalaurence24 January 2016
Taner (Levent Üzümcü) is a successful tycoon running his own advertising agency. Life seems set fair for him with an attractive wife (Bennu Yıldırımlar), a large house and a faithful chauffeur (Gökhan Atalay). However things start to go wrong when Taner unaccountably slits his chest open with a knife, and later on slashes his wrist. It turns out that his unconscious has been stimulated by the sight of someone appearing on a television screen.

Looking into a newspaper, he sees an ad for Kaçan Fırsatlar Limited (Escape Opportunities Limited), and decides to go and see them. They seem to know a lot about his existence, even before he encounters them; when he meets the boss Fuat (Ali Duşenkalkar), Taner finds out that they know almost everything about his past. After some considerable negotiation, Taner signs a contract with the company; this turns out to be his biggest mistake, as he sacrifices his right to self-determination as he does so.

The action shifts to the haunted house (the Kabuşlar Evi) of the title, where Taner and Filiz go to spend a week. Things do not quite go according to plan, especially when they encounter Sema (Bilge Şen) who turns out to be someone completely different from what they anticipated. This thriller has a truly Gothic ending that not only forces us to reflect on the consequences of our actions, but encourages us to "see" better - in other words, look more carefully at the world.

Scripted by Çağan Irmak and directed by Uluç Bayraktar, this made- for-television thriller is a little talky in places, but builds up towards a memorable climax by contrasting Taner's increasing mental uncertainties with a primitive ritual whose participants become wilder and wilder in their behavior. KAÇAN FIRSATLAR LIMITED sits firmly within the tradition of melodrama so profitably explored in Irmak's work, concentrating especially on the customarily hidden aspects of human nature.

Very original containing tons of philosophic metas

This episode of the Kacan Firsatlar Limited is especially stunning. It catches the viewer and works on his/her desires, cheats, sacrifices in a very original way.

The script and narration is very original as well. How frequent you see the narrator is mocking the viewer? Well we actually deserve it at times.

Levent's performance also deserves a huge credit , being a perfect "cruel boss" is not that easy. I am sure he convinced each viewer to make them hate him.

Overall this one is a masterpiece and the most underrated episode of the series.

Suggest to those who love thriller genre , watch this one.
