Am I The Only One Who Has Ever Seen This Movie?

Golden Brooks did a great job in this movie. When Golden's son's character got shot after trying to sell drugs, this was the turning point in the movie. He finally turned his life around and got saved. He prayed for the deacon who was dying after he gave him his kidney. It was never clear whether the deacon was his real father or just Golden Brook's husband. Deborah Cox's character waited to long to get even with husband Darius McCray's abusive self in this movie. He did a horrible job talking in that slow deep voice and portraying the abusive father. There were so many surprise plots in this movie that I couldn't keep up.

A TERRIBLE movie... Huge disappointment...

First of all, even IMDb is slacking with this movie, as the list of cast is VERY "gappy". Even main characters are missing from it like Buddy for example.

Now back to the movie. I love watching movies, but this one tortured me throughout the whole 82 or however many minutes. It was HORRID. Probably the worst movie I have ever seen. And the reason why it bothers me so much, is because I was quite excited about seeing it beforehand.

The plot line itself is good. It could have been a great film if done properly and with careful casting. Golden Brooks was a HUGE disappointment. I now see that the only role she can be good in is the loud, fun-loving, energetic sexy chick she plays on Girlfriends. Melodramatic roles are not for her at all. She basically killed her character, Rachel.

I love some of the cast, like Deborah Cox, Mel Jackson and Darrin Dewitt Henson, but even they couldn't save this catastrophic movie. Of course it is only my personal opinion that I can not stand Hill Harper as a man, and he didn't help me get to like him more here either.

Golden Brooks' voice bothered me so much that I actually had to force myself to finish watching the movie. It seemed like she whispered throughout the whole joint. The director I won't even waste board-space on, he did such a bad job. The editing, photography/camera focus and just about everything about this movie was SAD. Not to mention the dialogs! Absolutely unreal and many times straight hilarious (when it was supposed to make you cry and search deep within yourself).

As I said, it could have been a very nice movie, but it was seriously messed up. I would NOT recommend it to anyone, unless they are cinematography major and want to see a 'What not to do' example for their future work.

Exceeded Expectations

Overall this movie exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure of why I even rented the movie but I was glad that I did. I loved the story line, however I also did not feel that the title quite fit. Maybe if there was more development with the characters of Monica and Charlene and their struggle then I could. Also, it would have been nice to see why Monica was having a hard time finding a man. Also, I would have liked to see more character development with Charlene and her journey to finding the strength to stand up to her husband. Charlene went from being extremely submissive to lashing out herself. Personally, I thought the video quality wasn't bad. It was a lot better than I expected. The cast was great. I will be recommending other to see this movie.

Fantastic and classy movie

Fantastic and classy movie

This was a movie that was everything that movies like Soul Plane wasn't. Respectful, funny and clean. Well done with a touching love story. I found the acting was very well done with leads working extremely well together. Great cast, like Golden Brooks, Hill Harper, Melissa De Sousa, Deborah Cox, Mel Jackson and Darrin Dewitt Henson, The camera work was like wise well done and the editing masterfully done. Thinking back over it I found no scene that would make me embarrassed to bring my family to see it. It was truly a movie that did justice to the black entertainment industry.

Not enough exposure

I truly love this movie. I watch movies I love over and over. This movie is about a family of church going, complete family, drug dealing son, abusive husband, and the dangers of marrying someone you cannot always respect. Golden is married to a mechanic, but she has a degree and wants to live the high life. She seems to be disgusted with her husband, his dirty job, and his desire to work in the church. Oh, but like so many of us, we don't know how great we have it until we lose it.

The church scenes were beautiful, the singing out of this world. I am so sorry this film did not get more publicity. I have just recently started posting, however I have always purchased movies, so don't let the low ratings fool you. The changes these families go thorough is realistic and fixable. That is when we know we can make it. Sure we have problems, but we have to use them to learn, teach, and move on.

Old saying???? Grass always look greener on the other side!!!!! Congrats to all involved in this movie.

This movie is better than the low ratings that it has received

I was hesitant to rent this movie because of the low ratings. I decided to rent the movie anyway. I'm so glad I rented "a good man is hard to find", it was WELL worth it. I love the characters and story line. My husband said it was a great movie. I thought the title of the movie should have been different but oh well. PLEASE do not judge all movies by their ratings otherwise you will miss out on some really great movies. I am also looking forward to watching "Cover", which is another movie with low ratings. This movie does not look "low budget" either. Before watching this movie my husband said that this movie was a chick flick. He quickly changed his mind after watching the first 5 minutes of this movie.
