Best episode of 30 Rock's first season?
gizmomogwai15 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Tina Fey was nominated for an Emmy for writing this episode, and I think she deserved at least the nomination. This may be the best episode in the first season of 30 Rock. In it, Tracy is scheduled to appear on Conan O'Brien's show, and the last time he had appeared there, he had insanely attacked Conan with knives believing himself to be a "stabbing robot." This is a quirky, creative joke, and it sets the tone of the episode. This is not an episode that's afraid to get weird.

And weirder it becomes when the staff begins to fear that Tracy in the present is too insane to appear on the show. His medication seems to fail him and he believes he's being threatened by a blue creature. You may think this is weird, but it's funny and it's different. And it lets us meet Dr. Spaceman, a funny and interesting character. This was one of the first episodes that I saw, and it led me to admire 30 Rock. Just a shame that there aren't many episodes as good as this.

This episode is what really hooked me to '30 Rock'
EvanHamilton11 July 2011
I'll keep this review short: This was a great episode of 30 rock. As Tina Fey said herself, this episode was fast paced and had 'our other SNL buddy, Conan O'brian'. This is also one of Tina Fey's favorite episodes (also see 'Hard Ball'... That's one of her favorites, too.)

This episode mainly focuses on Tracy, who seems to be suffering from mental issues due to him not taking his medicine. Liz Lemon has to find a way to give him his medicine before he goes on a Conan show and deal with the strange and hilariously absurd things he is doing.

I loved Richmond's score to this one, and the introduction to Dr. Spaceman (If you haven't seen this episode, just know that it's pronounced just the way you think it is...). I also think this was the first for Griz and Dot. Com, to, but I'm not quite sure.

Anyway, this episode was great fun, and it has a fast pace, so there's never really just sitting or talking; there's always three things a character has to do, RIGHT NOW. To me, one of the best episodes of 30 Rock.

Really, Really Funny!
g-bodyl7 January 2014
The seventh episode in the first season of 30 Rock is probably the funniest episode yet this season. Maybe it has to do with the addition of Conan O'Brien, but this episode was really darn funny. I loved the problems that Tracy had to face because they were just too funny and laugh-out-loud in this episode. This episode is cleverly written and is sharper than the previous episode.

This episode, "Tracy Does Conan," has Jenna becoming livid that Jack is canceling her appearance on the Conan O'Brien show. She is replaced by Tracy and he suffers some weird results to his new medication and things may go bad before he shows up on Conan.

Overall, this is a sharp-written and witty episode. I really loved the interaction between Conan and Tracy and that is just comedy gold. I rate this episode 9/10.

Hey, Conan!
MaxBorg892 October 2008
With the previous episode, 30 Rock's tradition of having freaking great guest stars (Dean Winters, in the specific case of Episode 6) was inaugurated, and the trend is maintained admirably in the seventh show of the season, for which Tina Fey received an Emmy nomination as a writer. It features a happily self-deprecating appearance by one of America's top talk show hosts (and, coincidentally, a star of NBC, which produces 30 Rock): Conan O' Brien.

Conan's presence (as himself, obviously) is explained by Jack's latest attempt at keeping Tracy on the radar: instead of Jenna, it's the capricious actor that will appear on Late Night with Conan O' Brien that evening. Unfortunately, Tracy has been on the show before, and on that occasion he tried to stab Conan. Plus, he behaves even more strangely than usual, due to the new medication prescribed by Dr. Spaceman (Chris Parnell). In addition, Liz has to deal with Dennis' presence in her apartment, a fact that gets weirder by the minute.

Aside from Fey's writing, the success of the episode rests on three performers: Tracy Morgan, always fun to watch (just listen to his anecdotes about his son or meeting Sharon Stone); Parnell, who makes his debut on the show as the incredibly unreliable doctor (by the way, about his name: Tracy pronounces it as one could expect, everyone else calls him "Spuh- Che-man"); and Conan, who takes the "bonkers" element of his personality he uses on his show and amplifies it to the max. The result is essentially a comedic duel between him and Tracy. Who wins? Too close to call, but once again it's 20 minutes of great television.

Tracy Does Conan makes 30 Rock the funniest show of the season
tavm2 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Another hilarious episode, and it's written by the show's creator, executive producer, and star Tina Fey! Liz has had enough of boyfriend Dennis' dumbness and wants to talk to him after her work day is through. It becomes a very frantic day for her though when she has to deal with Jack's asking for jokes to tell at Jack Welch's party, Jenna's being dropped from Conan's show for Tracy, her own sugar diet, and Jordan's hallucinations of a blue creature resulting in page Kenneth's searching three identical drug stores near each other for Tracy's prescriptions and Liz's putting them in his mouth seconds before his Conan appearance. All this plus fellow SNL alum appearance of Chris Parnell as Dr. Spaceman and another Dratch role as the blue creature results in such a hilarious episode that I now declare 30 Rock the funniest show of this season. So to anyone who hasn't watched this show yet, I implore you, please, seek this one out!

Tracy Does Conan (#1.7)
ComedyFan201016 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Jack arranges for Tracy to be on Conan, but at that time Tracy's mental issues return because he didn't take his medicine so Liz has to deal with that while having other problems around.

This episode is definitely a perfection. Besides the main story there are several small ones that all go along perfectly. Tina Fey was nominated for an Emmy for this episode and it was very well deserved.

Tracy is great on this show. His issues are hilariously done and acted.

And all the small sub stories are great, such as the wig, "the rural juror" and Jack interrupting Liz so she can help him with his line. The moment we find out that even is not happening for the next several months and his response to why he is wearing a tux: "It is after 6! What am I, a farmer?" was hilarious.

I also loved the end scene with Kenneth on Conan O'Brien's set

A goodie

Lots of good moments in this episode-including Liz's evolving/devolving relationship with Dennis, Pete's flirtation with a surprisingly complimentary wig, Tracy's return as late-night guest on "Conan (after previously attempting to murder the red-headed host on air) and the first appearance of Dr Leo Spaceman, one of the series' best characters.
