Unbelievable work for a student film
I have been reviewing and voting on films entered in the Haydenfilms online film festival. When looking at the credits of the various entries, it's obvious who are student film makers versus established 'production companies'. (When a film has 5 grips, makeup departments and assistant directors and 2nd AD's etc it's fairly obvious that this isn't a bunch of kids 'putting on a show'.) Considering that Plums is a senior thesis project, it is truly amazing. I know some of the crew and know that a small handful of 5 or 6 people had to do it all, most of them wearing many hats. And the outside financial help was nearly non-existent. To be able to have crane shots and some other more technically challenging cinematography in this environment is phenomenal.
The acting was also stellar. John Matthews (as old Peter Tumbledown) was the epitome of the crotchety old man.
All-in-all, this was a great first film by some incredibly talented people. If you get a chance, see it on haydenfilms.com.
