Fitting direction, Killer of a soundtrack!
THEADreaNaL25 April 2008
The material for this episode seems to be under fire from US citizens, and like-wise Mexicans, as the story is about an illegal Mexican immigrant boy...But really, the point of the episode was highlighting what Superman stands for...Hope and Justice for all, help others selflessly! That is why I have always considered Superman to be the perfect superhero! Alright, granted that the script for this episode is not very strong...But the direction is top-notch for a TV show! V even get to see one of Superman's to-be enemies...! The ending scene with Lex Luthor walking down the hallway with all the hands groping at him from behind the bars is chilling, and the soundtrack is a true killer! But then again, I've always liked Mark Snow as a Music Director, and his choices are usually very fitting! Don't miss those ending scenes for anything! You really get to see the Lex Luthor we all know he is going to become...! Overall, a nice episode.

Leaning with the Hero
claudio_carvalho30 April 2008
The illegal Mexican immigrant Javier escapes from the slave labor in McNally Farms and hides in the barn of Kent Farm while his friend Francisco is caught by a mysterious subterranean creature. Clark investigates and finds a buried cemetery under the cornfields of McNally, while Chloe discovers that the place is owned by Luthorcorp – actually part of the 33.1 secret project.

In "Subterranean", Clark imposes for the first time his point of view to the reluctant Martha that in the end feels that her son is correct. Lana empirically finds that money is power proving that she really deserves Lex. The creepy conclusion with Lex walking through the corridors of the 33.1 shows how dark and evil this character is. My vote is eight.

Why did everyone hate this one?
dangitsdanny9 April 2007
I honestly really liked this episode. It would make a fantastic movie. I was on the message boards and a lot of people really hated this episode. I'm left clueless as to why. The plot is great, and the ending was amazing, probably one of the best Smallville endings. And the ending shot was also fantastic. I don't want to give to much away. Again, if a writer/director took this plot and made it into a movie, it would SELL! The title of the episode is also very clever. I'm just still stumped as to why people hate this episode so much.

The writing was terrific, the guest star appearance was a great choice. The only thing that got to me, was the Javier didn't even have the slightest bit of an accent. But still, this episode is up there on my favorite Smallville episodes.

Tyler Posey as Javier!
johnx77779 December 2006
Someone who knows who to contact or knows how to correct the mistake of placing Tyler Posey name without placing his characters name in the box next to it which Javier! Tyler Posey has not been seen in long while he is really big now! He still has the ability to capture attention on camera!Tyler Posey has done "Maid in New York" with J.LO and Corratial Damage with the Arnold Govenator. What great talent to be working with to start out his career. I cant wait to see what Tyler does next maybe bigger role to push him forward. In this episode Tyler plays Javier a illegal Mexican worker which is a politically sensitive topic right now but the episode featured another meteor freak and the disclosed location with the other meteor freaks locked away by Lex I liked how this episode went it had its stress points were I thought things were going to get out of hand. This sets up the surprise episode coming soon and I cannot wait every episode has been perfect this season and there is still more comic book references yet be to seen.

Getting disappointed in Smallville
royhobbs199110 December 2006
I have been a loyal watcher from the beginning and love the show. To me this season has been a disappointment and this is one of the worst episodes I have ever seen. Sure, Clark saves a boy and reunites him with his mother. Where is the excitement? Where are the super powers? Where is the story going? Are there any more Phantom zoners out there? At least they put up good fights, not like the guy in this episode that can move through the ground like a squirrel. The only good part of this episode was the trailer for the upcoming episodes. Please Smallville writers, lets pick up the pace and get somewhere or end the series before we all get bored to tears.

Subterranean

Oh boy. If there's any Smallville tradition more boring than the "Lana Gets Possessed" episodes, it's the always dull "Clark Becomes Big Brother to a Troubled Youth" episode. This time the troubled youth comes free with a heavy handed and very forced immigration story. Like pretty much every other TV show, when a political message gets tacked on to what's supposed to be an entertainment show it just gets annoying. If you want to add a political or social message to a show, make it entertaining at least. This is about as boring as season 6 gets. There is a bit of a bright moment. We are treated to another small peek at Lex's level 33.1 after the tease in the previous week. It would have been a little better if this peek came back in season 4 when it was originally introduced.

See the writers' point, but I don't buy it
Rcwilkinson12310 October 2007
This episode aims to make another connection with what Clark Kent is all about, but fails to deliver in this episode about helping illegal Mexican immigrants.

Clark comes upon a boy named Javier, who escaped from farmer Jed McNally near the Kent household. He learns from Javier that McNally treats the illegal immigrants who work for him terribly. Clark realizes that he himself is the world's biggest illegal immigrant. Upon this realization, he helps Javier escape the farm, expose McNally, and reunite with his mother.

This episode is one of the worst of the season thus far. It makes an interesting point in reference to Superman, but the point is hard to digest since not many Americans can truly say they support illegal immigrants.

Worst episode ever.
Roger_Sterling18 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This is officially the worst episode in Smallville history in my book. The plot is asinine, and the climax one is of the most anti-climactic I have ever seen for a TV show or movie. Sure, the kid Javier is reunited with his Mom, and that's all well and good, but that's it? No side plot, nothing? This is easily the bottom of the barrel not only for season 6, but the series as a whole. Illegal immigrants in Smallville is absolutely ridiculous, and executed poorly to boot. When the episode ended, I, like many others on the Smallville message board were left wondering, what the hell did we just watch? Are they even trying anymore? Thankfully, the 6th season has turned it around ever since this aired in December, and the likes of this episode will hopefully NEVER be seen again.

1/10, and that's for the scene with Clark and Lex.
