Mr. Fields has to leave the apartment house and asks Bud and Lou to let the repairman in to fix his television so he can watch the big fight that evening. He gives them $10, prompting them to try and fix the set themselves. Lou accidentally swallows the key to Mr. Field's apartment and tries to break in through the window, setting off an alarm. In a mixup, Mike the Cop gets the blame from the police sergeant (Ralph Sanford). Once inside, Bud and Lou fix the TV and begin watching the "Money to Burn" game show that calls a random number for a $1,000 question. The call Mr. Fields phone and Lou mistakenly answers the difficult question correctly. They will deliver the money to the apartment personally, by mandated rule. Bud and Lou now face the dilemma of getting Mr. Fields out of the way before they deliver the money at 8:00 that evening. With the TV fouled up again, Mike the Cop borrows another set to watch the fight with Mr. Fields in his apartment, while seeing if the burglar returns. When Lou sets off the alarm again, Mike comically gets the blame again. Once inside, Bud makes coffee laced with sleeping pills to give to Mike. Bud and Lou don't trust one another, switching back each other's cup. Things take a series of comical turns.
