Zimmerman's Lovesick is an expansion of his previous documentary work. In adhering to his Morris-like style the filmmaker does not appear on camera, and his presence is felt in the editing and cinematography. On the technical end, the lighting and editing is done wonderfully to add a light, ethereal note to the commentary of the interviewees, lending them a timeless quality which goes well with the subject matter. Zimmerman also does a stellar job of avoiding the talk head interview cliché, as , for example, we see close views of speaker's eyes, laden with emotion and energy. The subject matter, Love, is for a rare case treated fairly, as its ability to heal, uplift, hurt and confuse is examined. The interchange between disparate comments of subjects is not jarring, but rather adds to the cohesive whole. An excellent festival film, deserving of all received awards.
