"Unser Kindermädchen ist ein Millionär", which means "Our Nanny is a Millionaire", is a German television movie from 2006, so this one is already easily over a decade old, but here and there it is still shown in German afternoon television. This one runs for 1.5 hours exactly pretty much and the director is Bettina Woernle. Don't worry if you haven't heard of her so far, neither have I as a German film junkie and looking at the other stuff she made your hopes should not really be too high that this would be a quality movie. The screenplay is by Knarr and Weinges, who actually have also worked on several scripty for big screen releases, but admittedly these weren't of high quality either. Perhaps the "Crazy Race" films is the most known achievement from their bodies of work. In any case they seem to be a team and have worked together many times in the past. Now let us take a look at this one here. First of all, the cast is nothing too special, even for a television film. Frequently you find more known names in these, but here not really, neither for the lead nor the supporting actors. The lead is played by Gregor Törzs and his co-lead is Julia Stemberger. As for Törzs, not a fan at all. I don't think he is a particularly talented actor, or a talented actor at all, and the reason wyh he got cast were mostly his looks, amybe his charisma, but not really his range. And he has not been in new movies for years now (according to imdb) and I am not too surprised honestly. As for Stemberger, her career looks better. She is still in demand it seems and also not just for weak projects apparently. I think she is pretty attractive honestly, but even with that in mind I would say that I struggled seeing the two main characters here together and of course this is what would happen in the end. It was clear from minute 1. It is always like that in these movies. On the one hand, their chemistry wasn't too great, on the other she seemed to be too old.

Now let me give you a few reasons why I give this film sucha low rating. It seems like production company Rome Films is not exactly among the most experienced looking at the films they were in charge of. Anyway, the biggest issue here is definitely the script. It would have been a huge challenge for any cast to make it work and even if here and there we get an okay moment, at its center it is just a mess. Just take the general idea how the guy is picked to work as a nanny. Because the most influential members of the company have to go back to the base. Okay, did not feel too real to me I must say. You can probably make points for the auction early on or also for the jealous brother, but in terms of improving the plot or entertaining the audience those were far from a success too. The woman's other suitor felt also very generic as if there was any doubt who she'd end up together with. Same for the other woman who the male protagonist gets at the auction early on. One of the worst aspects, however, were the kids. Or I should say just the oldest son because his story line about how he despises Törzs' character from the beginning (don't even get me started on that phone call he makes) and eventually really accepts him after they talk for like 10 minutes not even. Do they really want us to believe that? In general, I would say this film did not feel easy to believe with everything it delivers us. With that I am most of all talking about the character development for Törzs' character. Of course meeting the right woman/pertner/human (call it whatever you want) can turn us into a different person, but the way they show it to us here I just didn't believe it and these moments of return to his old self with the other woman he ends up in bed on some occasion did not help either. Just the overall product that consisted of acting writing etc. was too weak I suppose. I guess the photo here on imdb summrizes this nicely. It's a film that is only to be enjoyed if you manage to completely switch off your brain for 90 minutes. But why would you do that? I mean a little distraction is never a bad thing, but a movie you can only enjoy (if at all) if you don't think a single bit about it, is not worth it. So yes, it is as bad as the title implies. Highly not recommended. Massive thumbs-down. The music is sometimes solid (i.e. the songs used, also during the closing credits), but of course the songs are not original or anything. Watch something else instead and I was actually glad when they flew away and it was finished because the idea about the kids randomly running away with the guy was just as much bad pseudo drama as it gets. Not even good enough for German afternoon television.
