Great, smart and low key

Wonderfully photographed and intelligent. The show high lites the quirky inhabitants of a rural seaside village via a local lawyer, a caring gentle man with common sense. Each show has 2 or 3 "cases" involving the locals, mostly humorous or lighter issue. Deeper situations are lurking among the lighter moments. Actors are very good (with the exception of the secretary's bratty son) and did I mention the photography? Lush rural England. I wanna Go! Serious bits and Comedic wrapped into one with NO laugh-track! Nothing hits you over the head and much is left for you to imagine or figure out, It can leave you laughing and crying ala Monk. Why can't most US TV be this good? Edit: This review applies to the whole series. not just 1.1

Kingdom is cosy television set in Market Shipborough. A small East Anglian town where Peter Kingdom (Stephen Fry) runs a small but popular country legal practice.

Peter knows everyone and deals with their legal problems. He has Lyle a young trainee solicitor. An a smelly irritant pest in Sidney Snell (Tony Slattery) who always wants to sue developers and the council.

When wealthy and glamorous Sheila Larsen (Lynsey de Paul) dies in her pool just minutes before her sixtieth birthday. Her feuding sons find out that there is no big inheritance for them. Sheila died in debt as her cars get repossessed.

Peter attempts to discover what happened to her money. Her sons learn an unheralded charitable side to her mother and an unexpected connection.

This is comfort television, good scenery and nothing too taxing. Peter explains probate law to the audience via Lyle.

No one is stretched here. The Norfolk accents are as broad as the Broads. Fry is very much in second gear.

There is an arc with Peter's sister suddenly moving in with him. Their brother going missing a few months earlier and is presumed to have committed suicide.

Great find

Glad I found Kingdom, an interesting show. Good stories, good characters & actors. My only complaint is that there are occasional words in the dialog that are unintelligible, even after reversing and replaying, even the subtitles indicate that there are unintelligibles.

Very Interesting I am 87 years old my wife is 86 she found it to be very slow and not very interesting, it makes you think about life and morality and how you would act given the problems presented to the Lawyer. Umbarger
