A necessary kind of cinema, 2 November 2006
10/10
Author: Chingatumadre9 from Mexico

This is the kind of movie that Hollywood will never do: entertaining, with very good acting, photography, soundtrack, and superb script, but at the same time a NEW movie, a movie that copies no one before, a movie that talks about the hypocrisy found in so many people (specially in USA), from the "2 sides", the Cuban-American, and the Yankee people, while giving you a story so interesting that maintains your attention focused on the screen all the time. A movie with the necessary guts to cast Alina, the daughter of Fidel Castro, and Huber Matos, leader of the Cuban revolution.

As I am a Doctor en Filosofia y Letras from Cuba, I would like to bring your attention to the awesome exactitude of the Cuban - Spanish that the different actors speak, taking into account the very different Spanish that Fidel really speaks (as anyone that has heard him has noticed, far from an average Cuban, as his father was from Galicia), from the Spanish that would probably speak a second generation Cuban-American, like so many characters on the movie. Also, it is a very risky decision, from the economic point of view, to make the characters speak English, sometimes "spanglish", in half of the movie, approximately: but this is ACTUALLY Miami! It IS like this!, as anyone that has lived here for a long time knows.

In a word, NECESSARY.
