Incredible Amount Of Material In This Episode, But Who Made The 'Miniature?'
ccthemovieman-112 December 2008
Well, to begin with, it was quite a 24-hour period for "Catherine Willows" (Marg Helgenberger) as the CSI member wakes up, finds herself in a motel room having been drugged and raped. She tells no one but "Sara" (Jorja Fox). Later in the day, Catherine is driving her daughter home from a dance recital when another vehicle slams into her and her daughter is kidnapped! At the end of the show, in the evening her dad "Sam" (Scott Wilson) is shot! Whew, what a day!

In the middle of all this we get some answers on the woman who was crushed to death and we finally - at the very end - find out who was responsible for what looked like a suicide (see the opening week). We also find out the connection between that and the rape-kidnapping involving Catherine and her daughter Lyndsey. (Kay Panabaker).

If all that isn't enough, there also is the very, very strange murder of an ex-rock star "Izzy Delancey" played by Joe Bonaduce. The really weird part is the miniature room that is created at the crime scene. The miniature as the scene down pat with everything exactly as it appears in the kitchen (the crime scene). It's an amazing piece of artwork and includes real blood from the victim. The whole fascinates CSI boss "Gil Grissom" (William Petersen) who - at the end of the show - is still trying to figure it out. In other words, not everything in this two-part opening story is solved.

I hope they don't forget about this doll house thing because it IS fascinating. I hate it when they leave things up in the air like this. Who killed the rock star and built that incredible miniature? Also guest-starring in her is film actress Sean Young, who played a number of sexy roles in the late '80s and early '80s. I have rarely seen any CSI show, including the Miami and New York spin-offs, with this many mini-stories packed into one 45-minute episode.

re: the comment from the person who was disappointed....

Warning: Spoilers
if you read the episode summary on the cbs website, the "built to kill: pt. 2" summary explains that the image pasted on the back of the tiny photo 'leaves Grissom with no answers, only a deepening mystery to be solved.' so !of course! they're going to continue the mystery, but it'll take them a little while to get rolling. If you watched the episode "Burn Out" this week (11/2/06) and saw the scenes from next episode, you'll know that another one of the creepy miniatures turns up in next week's episode (11/9/06). So the mystery is far from over yet...and I'd bet a lot of money that the miniatures will have something to do with someone from the other episodes that just seem unrelated...the writers of CSI are tricky like that. I'm glad that this 2-part story didn't have a quick-and-dirty ending. I like that the plot takes a lot longer to be resolved.

clues???

My friend and I are puzzled about last night's episode. At the very end of the show, Grissom picks up a miniature photo and turns it over. What does the picture of a doll have to do with the mystery? Also, who did they find killed the aging rock star? Also, what was the miniature of the murder crime scene signify about the murder? I know the rock star's son has a mental problem but I don't think he killed his dad and I also wonder about the Nanny. She is a flaky one to say the least. Maybe, possibly, the old rock star might have molested her? What was the deal with Catherine, her daughter and her (Catherine's) father? Was in with the mafia and was the guy who shot him the same guy that had drugged Catherine?

Things progress as Catherine continues to put the pieces together after being roofied and possibly raped. As she and Lindsay travel, an SUV runs into them and Lindsay is kidnapped. Further exploration of the death of the aging rock star reveals some significant factors. Catherine goes to her father for aid but he is big time and sets wheels in motion. The end of the episode is startling. We also know that the writers aren't going to just forget about the miniatures.

As the regular cast continues to investigate the death of an ex-rock star, Catherine suffers over several personal problems afflicting her and her family.

Warning: Spoilers
The regular investigations continue, finishing up the investigation of an ex-rocker (Donny Bonaduce), as Grissom and Sarah discover that the miniature model has specific similarities, learning that a bleach bottle, rolling pin and blood pools are identical. Quickly figuring that the rolling pin was used to kill him, they also know that the killer must have placed the blood pools in the miniature afterwards, since blood pools are random. All the while, Catherine Willows calls Sarah to the motel where she awoke and did a mock-rape kit on herself. After processing the information while the others continue to investigate the death of the rocker, Catherine finds she is not pregnant and didn't get very good results from her fake rape tests. She heads to pick up her daughter, Linsey (Kay Panabaker) from dance class, and they get into a car crash. The man who crashed into their car runs over and kidnaps Lindsey. The team quickly begins to investigate all of Catherine's troubles. Will they find Lindsey?

The End of an Icon
claudio_carvalho8 February 2023
The death of the washed-out pop star Izzy Delancey slumped over his kitchen table is investigated by Det. Sofia, Grissom, Sara, Nick and Greg. There is an identical miniature of the kitchen and Izzy's body, including the pool of real blood around his head that intrigues the team. The person that killed him had access to the house and there are many suspects: his wife Madeline; his nanny and mistress Annie Lansfield; his ex-wife Dusty; his stepson Sven. However none of them is the criminal and Grissom does not have any other suspect. Meanwhile, Catherine investigates her assault and only Sara knows what happened to her last night. While Catherine is driving Lindsey home after a dance rehearsal, her car is t-boned by another car and her daughter is kidnapped. Catherine is forced to disclose what happened to her to Grissom and to Sam Braun, with tragic consequences.

"Built to Kill: Part 2" is a great episode of "CSI", with the end of an icon in the series. The death of Sam in Catherine's arm is very sad, and Scott Wilson has also died in real life twelve years later. The participation of Sean Young is also an excellent chance to see this great actress. My vote is eight.

Left hanging
markschneider-12 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This was a bummer of an ending. Hopefully they will pick up and resolve the story-arc later in the season. Here is my take in the meantime 1. I think the first wife and the second wife cooperated in the killing. 2. The mother kept bringing up the idea that her son was a suspect. She also informed them that her son was a model-builder. The step-mom told them that he was likely the killer. 3. The blue eye on the baby doll in the miniature photo looked a great deal like the blue eye of the nanny. 4. The nanny is young enough to be a child of the dead rock star.

So, either the wife / ex-wife were co-conspirators and are framing the son, or the nanny is the killer and the moms think its the son. Perhaps the son gave the nanny the kitchen model as a gift and that is why he appeared to be so shocked. Hmmm... my money is on the nanny... only one with bright blue eyes.

Keep in mind that I'm just guessing... But the wife and ex-wife looked pretty friendly in the surveillance camera. The one nagging thing is that the son looked quite surprised at the photo of the interior of the kitchen model.

Built to kill Part 2

I too am very disappointed with the ending, it left so many questions unanswered. You watch part 1 and then wait with anticipation for part 2 only then to be left hanging again. I sincerely hope they'll pick it up in the next episode. So unfair to leave all of us fans hanging like that. We do love the show tho, watch the others too but this is by far the best of all of 'em.

I was surprised to see Grisholm without his beard and mustache, upon viewing him this new season I must admit I like him with them rather than not. He is more handsome with the facial hair.

Since this was the first of the CSI programs we watched it all the time. Plus when we were away, heaven forbid if I forgot to record the show. Good thing I have a VCR and Dish.
