Patty is having a slumber party, a first for Cathy. Ross is determined to mess with the eight girls and discreetly plants a tape recorder. Martin is agitated by the noise in the middle of the night, but Natalie reminds him that one day she will grow up and they will look back and be grateful for the moment. After the other girls leave the next morning, Patty and Cathy return to their room to find a note on each pillow. It is from their "juicy" conversations at the slumber party and Patty recognizes her brother's handwriting. Ross threatens to tell Patty's boyfriend Richard how she feels about another boy so she will clean his room and be ordered around. Furthermore, he blackmails Cathy with her remarks about a teacher in order for her to do his homework. He reasons his actions as a means to get some attention for a change. Cathy and Patty stage a plot to find where Ross has hidden the tape recorder in hopes of turning the tables.
