A Honk-Kong epic on life as it is, top clans.
mkrjmn20 March 2011
A hidden gem of a Honk Kong movie-industry, the about-three-decades-lasted story unfolds a usual landscape of local traditional semi-transparent inter-links between industry and simply crime while following two clans created by ex-school-friends reveling for and separating by feelings to the same girl.

Blood, murdering, thirst for reaches depicted as mix of comedy and tragedy easily consuming by any viewer, while local stars-performing and musical-helped this process much.

An eventual presence of English subtitles might usher this epic into outer world surely.

Truly classic TVB-drama
tosyllam2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Recently rewatched this 30 year old TV drama and it truly remains a classic and arguably one of TVB's best TV dramas ever. Great cast, with memorable roles for a brutish Adam Cheng, thoughtful Damian Lau, charming David Siu and beautiful Loletta Lee (now Rachel Lee).

Psychologists would go crazy for the characters in 2023; manic narcissistic father with 4 sons who all lack morals and values. An educated, cultured widower with 1 son and 3 daughters who are being raised by a young woman who is on the run from her abusive ex.

The lives of both families continue to intersect through murder, love and more murder against a background of the turbulent stock market in Hong Kong in the 1960s to the early 1990s with big wins and even bigger losses.

Sometime in 2015, this TV drama aired late (mid)night as a screen time filler and it says a lot about the quality that the series achieved higher ratings and appreciation from viewers than the current ones on prime time.

Was it inspired by actual facts?... Superb acting from main characters apart from couple of newbies... Story although captiviting leaves us bewildered with some of the unbelievable situations...
