A nice low budget laid back movie
tirkkanen23 May 2008
I liked this movie. It's very straightforward and simple. The plot revolves around four childhood friends, who are grown up and each dealing with their lives best they know how. One of them gets in a pickle and the guys rush out to help him.

The characters are great and they actually act, in my experience, as friends do. Plus they are not the obvious and typical stereotypes this kind of movie usually portrays. All the guys are little different and interesting in their own way.

This is a dark comedy slash drama. It's got some crazy moments plus some serious issues too. Mainly I just think the dialogue is funny. This movie is just nice and easygoing and there are no awkward moments which I find to be a great plus.

Nothing of great proportions here, yet IMO worth seeing and provides solid entertainment no doubt about it. If you've seen all the blockbusters at your local video rental store, this is a fine choice to rent.

"How do you stop a monkey from giving a dead guy a hand-job?"
charlytully3 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the question in my summary line was the funniest movie quote I've heard in at least a week. It comes as four friends-from-kindergarten grown into thirty-somethings are struggling with a corpse in their backseat and a monkey who's also a bestiality porno film veteran, as a traffic cop walks over to them from his patrol car. Of course, nothing is shown. And a character's sister-in-law flashes her ta-tas at him, but nothing is shown. And a character settles in to have fun with the stimulative film EMMANUELLE VS. DRA(ULA, but nothing is shown. And the soon-to-be-dead guy drops off his "actress" to join the menagerie at porn shoot, but nothing is shown. And an alligator surfaces next to a pair of corpse frog-men, but nothing is shown. And a doctor performs a spur of the moment C-section on a living room floor, but nothing is shown. This movie is pretty funny for something which shows so little, but I wish it had shown more Jacksonville, FL, landmarks.

Funny Dark Comedy!
rbmelrose-129 March 2008
Remember the last movie that produced a good belly laugh? Until last night, we couldn't, but Who's Your Monkey, a.k.a. Throwing Stars, had the theater cracking up! We are ready to see it again to catch any lines we may have missed while laughing during the movie. Not a big-budget movie but makes up for that in the writing and cast. Well done... Smart, Funny, Edgy, Dark Comedy! The soundtrack was surprising and fun, and added to the comedy of the film. The movie is very fast-paced and leaves you satisfied about what is in store for the characters' future. The cast had a really nice chemistry and you believed they had known each other for years. The new title and trailer give the idea that this is a silly, fluffy film, when in reality it has many layers, much depth, and great character development. If you see any Indie this year, this is the one!
