john is a great guy
kimvail14 March 2007
I saw Collier and Co. in Franklin TN on March 10th. John made an appearance but was late and he waited until everyone had seen him and gotten autographs and pictures before he let them start the movie. That alone says how great of a guy he is. He watched the movie with us and we had a great time, the young and the old. He was very sweet to everyone. It says a lot about him that he personally fund this movie. I do believe that Hollywood will be sorry that they didn't pick this movie up. This is what good family entertainment should be about. If it comes to your area, please take the time to go and watch it. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely purchase the DVD when it comes out. A very great movie!!!!

I didn't like it at all...

Warning: Spoilers
I have to say that there is nothing wrong with low budget films, so that was not my problem with it. My problem with it is that I felt like I was watching my next door neighbor's home movie. IMO everything about it just seemed like a guy wrote out a quick story, grabbed a camera, and started shooting. I understand how hard this must be to do effectively, but when I pay to rent a film, I expect to feel like I am watching some type of professionally made movie.

John Schneider has a huge resume, is a great actor, and was fine in this film. The other people in it were not. I understand how it must be fun, and cheaper to use friends, and relatives as the cast, but it doesn't make for convincing acting. It seemed like the way it was shot, he was trying to give many of the scenes a more interesting look, but when the writing, plot, and acting are there to begin with, that type of style isn't necessary, and it is a distraction.

Also on a technical level, it had digital artifacts all over the place. In the first scene of all of those fine cars, when they did a slow scan of them, they appeared to jerk back and forth just a little bit. The problem isn't in my viewing equipment, (Benq PE-8700 84" diagonal) but somewhere in the production. I've never seen that kind of artifact in a professionally made film before. Then there was the sound. It sounded like they didn't do any voice-overs, which may be o.k. unless it sounded like the track in this film. It sounded like the built in microphone on the camera.

Warning: Spoilers
I was a pretty big Dukes of Hazzard Fan back in the day and I commend John on his attempt to create something for the fans, but this movie isn't anything you would want to watch over and over. It was nice seeing some references to the show on the film, but the overall storyline wasn't that great. I give him credit for bringing his mom, Shirley, his now ex wife Elle and his daughter on board to try to create an entertaining, true 'family' film. This was a indeed low budget film by Hollywood Standards....something that you'd expect to see at a film festival rather than on the big screen. If you watch with that in mind you should be okay. The whole plot of people chasing other people , involving a helicopter, and getting emotional over 'cat ashes' may have been intended to be funny in that it would have been ridiculous, but actually just seemed stupid. Who would actually do that, no matter how much money you had?

Collier & Co. - What a Movie Should Be
phinkle30 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
"Collier & Co." starring John Schneider is a family comedy which will keep you laughing throughout the entire movie. There is also a lot of action. Do you love the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard? If you answered yes, then this movie is for you! It is a film which you can take your entire family to see without any reservation. I was fortunate to be invited to the red carpet premiere on Oct. 27th in Memphis, TN. What a premiere it was! The crowd really was involved in the movie as we laughed and yeeeehaaaaaed throughout. John portrays J.R. Collier, a man who can't grow up. He wants to continue racing and jumping his car while his wife Becky (Elly) wants him to grow up and settle down with a job. Otherwise she wants a divorce. Their daughter, Danielle (Karis), is just like dad. How J.R. convinces Becky to stay with him is beyond belief. Let's just say that he does a lot of fast racing and jumping in his cars. Meanwhile the bad guys are going crazy trying to keep up with him. References to the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard are everywhere throughout this movie. Dukes fans unite - contact your local theaters and insist that they screen "Collier & Co." in their theaters. You will not be disappointed!

Great family entertainment

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a great reminder of what movies should be - what they used to be. There are a lot of aspects of the movie that reminded me of the Dukes of Hazzard, such as the fact that there is an orange Charger that John (J.R.) drives in the movie and it jumps over a car just like the good 'ole days. There is no violence (except for a few punches)... no sex scenes (except for a kiss)... Just great clean fun! And remember, if you like this movie, then tell others! Also tell your local theater so that they will support the movie and get it shown more than once at your theater!!! I was laughing throughout most of the movie. And I felt good when I left. I LOVE movies that make me feel good. Please go see it!

Review on Collier and Co.
KBruse27 November 2006
I have watched The Dukes of Hazzard for many years as a child. Now my kids are watching to. My husband and I met Don Gilley and John and they were the nicest people and very nice to my two daughters. They came to Amarillo Texas and showed the movie and we all loved it and enjoyed having John and his crew there. He is really a talented man and should be given the opportunity to sell and have this movie produced by Hollywood. The movie is a lot like the Dukes of Hazzard and he is just as good. He is a very talented actor is deserving of having a great family movie be shown in the movie theaters. This is an EXCELLENT MOVIE!!!!!!

Collier & Co. in good company
needacupotea6 January 2007
John Schneider succeeded in doing what he set out to do and that was to create a movie that will appeal to moviegoers of all ages. The movie is quite entertaining and has a decent plot. If you expect a family movie that is so sugary sweet that anyone over the age of five won't be able to tolerate it, then you are in for a pleasant surprise. It is a well-written story with a little something for everyone. A definite must for all John Schneider fans and a good place to start for all those looking for a refreshing change of pace. They say the family that plays together stays together - with all the family members and friends that are part of the cast, you know the Schneider clan is a very cohesive unit. If you are a Dukes fan, you'll enjoy the stunts and the racing scenes.

"Collier & Co.-Hot Pursuit"
dkworrell31 March 2007
I have seen this movie at an opening that John attended. I loved the movie. John did a great job in bringing a family movie to the big screens. We need more movies like this. It was a fun movie. If you are NOT a Dukes of Hazzard fan, you will still enjoy this movie. I don't want to give too much of it away. For those of you reading this and are a Dukes fans, you will especially enjoy all the Dukes reference you'll see and hear. It brought back lots of memories. For kids, I would take my kids to see it. Again, it's a fun movie, has clean comedy in it, fast cars and great acting. I especially loved the ending. Well done John! I'd like to thank John for this wonderful movie and having the chance to met him, his wife Elly, his mother Shirley and all the promoters, Phyllis, Breet, and Allen. It was a wonderful night and a great movie. I will see it again.

Excellent - recommend!

Warning: Spoilers
I am proud to say I purchased a Collier and Co package through John's website and so was one of the first to get the DVD (movie not shown in NZ)Throughly enjoyed the story, and the feel good tone of the movie, Loved the nods to Johns previous work and also the funny asides - like the scene at the restaurant with the bikes parked in the disabled car park - VERY FUNNY! We have a four year old who loves the Dukes of Hazzard and he happily sat through the DVD! For all of you who want a feel good movie, where the good guys win and and laughs are kind, this is for you! I strongly suggest the big shots of Hollywood need to take note - THIIS THE KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE WANT!!! Given what the Dukes of Hazzard movie turned out like (I turned it off - couldn't stand it!) perhaps John should have written it!
