  [a smoke alarm goes off] 

  Elmo : What's that?

  Alan : [shocked]  It's a smoke alarm.

  Maria : [notices smoke billowing from the kitchen]  Alan, look! Is that fried chicken I smell?

• Kids : Thank you, firefighters!

  [the segment changes to reveal Elmo wearing a fireman's helmet and standing outside of 123 Sesame Street. Next to him is a female firefighter] 

  Elmo : Hi, everybody! This is Elmo's friend, Susan. And guess what? She's a firefighter!

  Firefighter Susan : Hi!

  Elmo : Susan's going to show us what to do if there's a fire. Elmo just went into Hooper's Store, and there was a fire there.

  Firefighter Susan : Yes, you were, Elmo. And what'd you do?

  Elmo : Elmo had to "get low and go", like this:

  [ducks and runs off. Susan smiles. Elmo comes back in, ending the segment] 

• Elmo : Shade? Open up, please.

  [the shade opens to reveal Ms. Noodle, twirling around] 

  Elmo : Oh, look! It's Mr. Noodle's sister, Ms. Noodle. Hi, Ms. Noodle! Hi! Ms. Noodle? Wow, Ms. Noodle's really good at spinning. But she sure needs to work on stopping.

  [sticks his head in] 

  Elmo : Ms. Noodle? Ms. Noodle? Are you there?

  [Ms. Noodle sneaks up while Elmo isn't looking and tickles him on the head, making him giggle] 

  Elmo : There you are! Hi, Ms. Noodle. Boy. What do firefighters wear to keep safe when they put out fires?

  [Ms. Noodle thinks for a moment, but then she leaves briefly] 

  Elmo : Where's she now?

  [Ms. Noodle comes back in wearing a football uniform] 

  Elmo : Ms.-Ms. Noodle!

  [giggles] 

  Little kid #1 : No, that's not right!

  Little kid #2 : Hey, that's a football uniform! That's for football, not for fighting fires.

  Elmo : Yeah, that's what football players wear, Ms. Noodle.

  Little kid #2 : You can't fight a fire in that!

  [Ms. Noodle stares at the camera in disappointment] 

  Little kid #2 : That's what football players wear to keep safe.

  [Suddenly, the football deflects rapidly off Ms. Noodle's helmet] 

  Little kid #1 : And it really works.

  [Elmo giggles] 

  Kids : Try again, Ms. Noodle!

  Elmo : What do firefighters wear to keep safe?

  [Ms. Noodle leaves, then comes back in again, but wearing a suit of armor, complete with a lance] 

  Kids : NO!

  Little kid #2 : That's a suit of armor! You can't fight a fire in that! That's what knights wear to keep safe. What do firefighters wear?

  [Ms. Noodle looks down at her armor] 

  Elmo : No, they don't wear armor. No.

  Kids : Try again, Ms. Noodle!

  Little kid #2 : You can do it.

  Elmo : Try again.

  [Ms. Noodle stumbles around with the lance] 

  Kids : Whoa!

  Little kid #1 : Careful, Ms. Noodle.

  [a crashing noise is heard. Ms. Noodle comes in again, but now she is wearing a firefighter's uniform, complete with a fire hose, and she is pretending to put out a fire] 

  Kids : YAAAAAY!

  Little kid #1 : Yeah, that's right!

  Little kid #2 : That's a firefighter's uniform!

  Little kid #1 : Ms. Noodle is pretending to put out a fire.

  [Ms. Noodle notices that no water is shooting from the hose] 

  Elmo : Wait, what's wrong, Ms. Noodle?

  Little kid #2 : But there's no water coming out!

  Little kid #1 : No water?

  Elmo : Awwww.

  [giggles] 

  Little kid #2 : Where's the water?

  [Suddenly, water shoots out everywhere, and Ms. Noodle loses control of the hose. Elmo and the kids burst out laughing] 

  Elmo : There's the water!
