Ridiculously Funny!!
yoguisto7920 January 2007
This was the first episode I've seen in this series and I am hooked. The idea that someone would become a crack head in order to receive welfare payments is absurd. These guys are really funny. They ask the drug dealer how much he "recomends for a first time user." When Mac explains the "Work for Welfare" program to Charlie and Frank, watch Charlie's reaction. "I don't understand--are you asking me a question?" There are so many little comments and subtleties that are hilarious. I am not ashamed to admit that I taped a few episodes and watched them a few times each. You pick up new things every time you watch. Very Funny! Great show. I hope they make a lot more episodes.

2x3: Dennis and Dee Go on Welfare
FriedToast026 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is one episode that has grown on me so much when I first watched it I didn't really get all the hype around this episode, but now after many rewatches this is one of the best of the season and prolly my favorite of the season so far. So many iconic scenes on par with Charlie gets Crippled. This episode I will say all the characters are really starting to get into their groove, with Dee really getting into the scheme and this episode feels such like a classic sunny episode with the gang exploiting something to extreme levels. This episode being Welfare, and being one of the best written episodes of the season. This episode is also the first one to break the order being the 4th in production order and followed by the 6th episode of the season The Gang Gives Back, it doesn't matter to much but you notice after watching the season multiple times.

Some of the best scenes being Dennis and Dee getting welfare. Dennis intro with Dee wearing the helmet is a classic sunny line. Charlie and Mac showing up to pick a roommate is so funny and makes me laugh everytime. I love how the plot goes so off the walls from the opening with Dennis and Dee leaving to prove a point and try to follow their dreams to them doing crack. Dennis and Dee confrontation with the dealer is iconic and him opening the window just a smidge is so good. Dennis and Dee waking up realizing what they did and wanting more is hilarious. The B plot is equally as funny with Frank giving Charlie and Mac money to watch over and yea of course it goes as expected with them going on a spending spree and getting a limo with chicks and laughing is so good. Them stopping and then driving off after Dennis and Dee ask for money is great. The ending with Charlie being promoted is great and I like it even more since Charlie doesn't get a lot of breaks in the show and he's prolly my favorite character. I love Frank's line to Dennis and Dee "Your crack heads children". Also another amazing scene is the stoop scene with Dennis and Dee singing Biz Markie You've Got A Friend a classic. Such a great episode and like it a lot more since I know this show writing is amazing and do talk about the crack addiction and have another episode talking about it in season 11 which I was worried about at fiest and also Frank is not perfect but I like him in season and in this episode as well Danny DeVito is always great it's not perfect but easily above a 95% really sets stone for the show moving forward and makes the template for future episodes.

A return to great comedy
yavermbizi22 August 2019
My overall rating of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"'s Season 2: 5/10

While the previous two episodes in this season have been fairly bad and disheartening, this one really seems like a return to form, with incredibly hilarious and well-acted characters, a plot that goes from strength to strength and a controversial idea being cleverly lampooned. The performances are brilliant, the writing is excellent, and while the Charlie, Mac and Frank's plotline pales a bit in comparison to that of Dennis and Dee, it still very much has its momemnts.

Surprising Terrible!
AvaAva312 August 2013
Terrible. That was one of the worst things I've ever see. I can't believe that was called a comedy. I've had this show, and especially this episode recommended to me by many friends, and have been waiting a long time to watch it so, I was expecting it to be a new favorite series, but it was Awful! The acting was bad, it was way over the top and the comedic timing was just terrible.

The jokes were poorly written, and the story line seemed rushed, like it wasn't thought out at all!

The video production was terrible, not just because it seemed low quality, but because it looked like they didn't put any effort in it to make it look good.

This show wasn't entertaining, it wasn't fun, and it was not even the slightest bit funny. Usually when watching any comedy series I can at least find one thing funny or good about it, but not in this case. Therefore my description of this episode and this show is that it is Surprising Awful.
