"Perhaps you should ask it nicely to go away." Flat third episode.

Warning: Spoilers
Doctor Who: Warriors of the Deep: Part 3 starts with the Doctor (Peter Davison) & his companion Tegan (Janet Fielding) escaping the deadly clutches of the monstrous Myrka as the Sea Devils & the Silurians team-up to invade SeaBase 4 in an attempt to gain control of it, their plan to use the missile's on-board to destroy the human race now clear. It's up to the Doctor to save both the day & the Earth once again...

This Doctor Who adventure was the first story from season 21 that aired back in early 1984 here in the UK, directed by Pennant Roberts I thought episode 3 wasn't as good as the previous two. The script by Johnny Byrne is starting to wear a bit thin & outstaying it's welcome, the first two part were good because of a tight, decent little story & there was a fair amount going on but by the time part 3 is in full flow I was beginning to become disappointed that the build up wasn't really going anywhere & the traitors aboard the SeaBase 4 are quickly & lazily disposed of without the big revelation that I was hoping for, it's more of a whimper actually. Having said that I still like & enjoy Doctor Who a lot in spite of it's flaws & as a fan I liked Warriors of the Deep, it's all good fun I suppose & as far as I'm concerned it definitely has entertainment value.

Director Roberts lets this story down with pedestrian direction during scenes that should have been so much better, particularly when the Sea Devils initially break into SeaBase 4. In a scene that had potential to be very cool & have a good shoot-out it's very flat & disappointingly rather dull, there's lots of people & creatures walking around & not much else. There's also a ridiculous bit where an old woman tries what looks like a karate high-kick on the Myrka, thankfully it's not having any of it & it kills her. It's amazing who turns up in these things, I was pleasantly surprised to see Hammer Horror icon Ingrid Pitt & Ian McCulloch the star of several Italian gore film including Zombie Flesh Eaters (1979), Contamination (1980) & Zombi Holocaust (1980) turn up.

Warriors of the Deep overall is a good four parter that has a decent story but is let down by some poor monsters & a feeling, certainly during this episode, that it could have been better. Still worth a watch although as a stand alone episode Warriors of the Deep: Part 3 isn't the greatest.

Is it on half speed?

The Sea Devils break into the base...and slowly take over.

Everything is so slow, the way the Sea Devils speak, move, even the way they stand and shoot, missing a straight line of static humans opposite.

Once again the story itself isn't at fault, it's the execution, direction, script etc, it's all so dreary. They missed a real opportunity here, fans love to see a flash of bad guys, The Silurians and Sea Devils have zero conflict, there was no real need to feature The Silurians at all, and as for the trundling Myrka, what were they thinking? It's a real shocker.

I am loving Ingrid Pitt, her presence alone is the only thing making this bearable, her attempt to Karate The Myrka is a joy to watch.

There's literally no life in it, it's like a flat bottle of cola, 4/10.
