The chatterbox and the cop
dbdumonteil8 August 2016
That's what the title means ;the play is a detective story with lots of gags written by Robert Thomas whose "Piège Pour Un Homme Seul" Hitchcock wanted to transfer to the screen and whose "Huit Femmes" ,directed by François Ozon as one of big French successes of the early Naughties.

The action takes place in a notary's office where Mademoiselle Alice works as a switchboard operator ;one evening, when all the staff is gone, she discovers her boss's dead body ,stabbed in the back;she has just the time to call the police before fainting;when she regains consciousness ,the police have arrived but the dead is no longer in the room.Henri Grandin ,a policeman nicknamed "Tête De Fer" (=iron head)by his colleagues because he is bad-tempered .Coincidence :Mademoiselle Alice would know him when he was much younger.

The pairing of the two actors ,Raymond Souplex (who often portrays policemen in TV movies )and Jane Sourza (sadly, who died before the play was broadcast) is irresistible ;to her good friend Georgette with whom she almost speak all day on the phone ,she has this immortal line:" Isn't she talkative !"
